I am picking up my new GS next Saturday. Having recently found this forum and all the gearbox/clutch issues should I be worried?

Some peeps on here have trouble free bikes I'm one of them! So enjoy.

Don't worry, be happy.

My gearbox is like a hot knife through butter (ish) and I'm also sure that it makes me more attractive to the opposite sex (possibly) plus everyone seems to find my jokes a lot funnier (not true).

And besides, if its no good:

Mines on order so I am in the same position! The bike I test rode was fine so I can only hope mine and yours will be the same. Just like the extras turning up I suppose you can only be positive?

the box is a bit agricultural and feels unrefined at times but its still the best bike by far that ive owned:D

Try not to worry.:comfort Thousands have now been registered all over the world and there may be a few with issues, but as others have said, there are many bikes out there with no issues whatsoever.:rob Mine's fine BTW:D:beerjug:

Had mine a week now done 950 miles some of which were around Cadwell, bike and box are superb, go and buy it, then go and ride it! YOU'LL LOVE IT! :bounce1

Thanks for the response

Thanks for all the reassurance. The test bike was superb and it seemed to fit like a glove. I have gone with a base model that has been brought up to TE spec apart from the led light. It does have the led running light as an extra. Added a tracker and have a few goodies on their way to hopefully add the icing to the cake. Have gone to BMW for insurance. If anyone can recommend a good gap insurer it would be great.

Box is not super slick but I've had worse BMW boxes on my R11S , In my 3,500 klms I'm very well pleased with this bike. The bike seems to improve with miles and personally after owning a Ducati Multi Strada I enjoy, brakes that work, electronic suspension that is well thought out , excellent wind protection, and better smarter engineering. I'm sure this bike will have things that niggle me , but I own a R50 touareg that has things that niggle me, My Quattro TT has things that niggle me , my Laptop , and so on. every thing can usually be better for some one or some reason.

The bike comes with a warranty, what's to worry about?

Leave BMW to worry about things! :thumby:

Gear box 1-2 2-3 is not great on mine, but the dealer is aware and I'm not getting to hung up about it.
It may take a while but I'm confident it will be fixed.

Don't worry about your new bike it's a fantastic piece of kit and without doubt the best (by far) GS I've ever owned.

Enjoy

Steve

Mines similar n-1 is errr crunchy, but otherwise fine. If a bit sticky and tight , but it does only have 65 miles on it...

I'm lovin it. Really lovin it.
It's good to be back on a gs.
The r1200r was a fab bike, and I've missed it ( sold it 5 weeks ago), but the LC is great - and the LED headlight is very very good indeed.

You're not going to get people posting that their bike is working as it should so if 10 in 10,000 bikes have a gearbox problem you will most likely get 10 negative posts as opposed to 9,990 positive ones. Also, expectations on a brand like BMW are high which only exacerbates peoples tendency to moan even if they are 99% happy.

Mine was a bit agricultural at first especially on 3-2 downshift, has improved with miles, now over 5k miles and either its better or im better at changing gear .
Enjoy :thumby:

If I get the revs right she down-shifts beautifully, smooth and silky.

Yeh, it clunks going into 1st, but so what, it won't hurt it the bike and nearly all bikes do a 1st gear clunk!...... Even Honda's!

Absolutely great bike!

What's not to like !

Had my LC five weeks, cracking bike.
Advanced in every way to the old GS.
Something new is always slightly unusal, yep it clunks into first gear, but it's not the end of the world is it?
My old GS's did exactly the same.

Anyway most of the critics have only test ridden one and are probably just jealous of us !

Enjoy

Cheers Russ :beerjug:
