It's probably a bit late to say this now for you, Barry

, but I'll say it for anyone else who might be thinking of doing the same. I have been asked by one or two of my posse if it would be possible to do our tour earlier in August or July and I've said no.I would simply rather not run the tour.
I do keep my bike there in the summer, but sometimes I don't touch it for the whole 6 weeks I'm there.
Why?
Simple: traffic and tourists.
I won't elaborate for the simple reason that I know you're really looking forward to it and I don't want to seem negative. What I will say is that in comparison to the UK on a summer's day you will probably think it's paradise.
On a more serious note. I assume you will ride the N625 around the Ponga area. It's one of many lovely roads, but ride super defensively. Some of the overhangs mean larger vehicles, especially the big ALSA busses of which there are many, have to run wide on, or cut, the corners and they're mostly blind. It really isn't a typical A (N) road; it's quite narrow in all the wrong places. Also, there's a constant rat-run of "kids" doing summer work driving vans full of canooists up and down that road, they know the road better than you and, like all kids, they're in a hurry!
Enjoy. Ride Safe
