Picos, northern Spain and France trip report

Day 7. Lacaune to Dunieres

So after a lousy brekky today we headed out into the strong winds of the morning.
I was going to leave a shite review of the hotel but considering dinner accomodation and meager brekky all in was €125. I can’t complain and I did sleep good so…..

This morning It was trying very hard to rain but in essence just spitting. Bikes were fine but the 3 Italian riders who had also parked in the church car park one guy had a flat. Luckily just around the corner was a tyre garage so he was fine.
Today was really about the riding and less scenery with one exception which can be seen in the photos below. We headed up into the hills again but it really was windy.
Even in the hills the roads were mostly superb. Great bends but bends where you could really get your pegs down and make some progress. A brief Photo stop and a coffee break at Millau and we continued our journey north. Total just over 310km and we arrived in the small village of Dunieres and our hotel Logis hotel de La Tour. Quiet location and not many guests. Comfy rooms and restaurant looks good as well. We will find out tonight

When you left Millau, did you follow the Tarn Gorge for a bit ?
The Chateau de Cressiels near Millau is a cracking place to stay and plonks you straight in the Tarn Gorge the next morning

Saw the signs but wasn’t on our route. Something for next trip👍👍👍

….
And that must be a really old photo. All GS’s in the photos….

Thanks for the report

Thanks. But we’re still going….😁😁😁

Day 8. Dunieres to Arbois

So day 8 begins with dark clouds and rain but after brekky the clouds thin and the rain stops so we set off in dry albeit wet road conditions. Rain had passed over and we headed east towards Lyon. Again not so much scenery as opposed to great roads. Long sweepers as someone here quoted. Soon all was dry so no more rain👍
After Lyon and a couple of coffee stops we were heading north into Ain and over the Rhone river. A stop at the Col de whatever ( see pic below) and the last 100km we’re back in great hills with the last part near Arbois a fantastic gorge road albeit only for a few km.
Hotel is great. We arrived a the Logis in town only to be told we had no reservation. Shit. Got my paperwork and the kind lady said we had the wrong hotel. Back on the bikes and a 300m further up was ours. Great room, they have their own winery and cellar and I’ll upload a few pics later.
Hotel is the Logis hotel Les Caudalies in Arbois.
@Mad Hatter should be familiar with the area. Had hoped to catch him but haven’t seen him on here for a while.

Some pics of the stop and hotel

Looks a nice place

Again we were on the same roads today. I left Hotel Meson, recommended, in Ainsa and rode to Quillan. 200 miles along the N260 and Aude Gorge. Great roads and fairly quiet which surprised me.
Well then, park up and let them catchup to you. 🤪
