Pictures from PC to iPad ?

Is there a simple way of passing pictures from a PC to my iPad without using a third party site ? I can connect them physically using a cable so logically the transfer should be possible, or am I over simplifying it

Email them to yourself?
Otherwise iTunes.
I also have an SD card adapter for the iPad so I can import from that. Copy onto the card, insert card to adapter, import all.

I do it all the time. One end into ipad, tuther end into pc usb socket.
PC sees Ipad. Transfer photo's.

iPad wont let you write into the DCIM folder. You can take stuff off the iPad, but unless there is a way I havent seen, you cant move stuff onto it.
