Pillion pegs

Hi all, I guess I am missing something so any help appreciated.
I removed the pillion footpeg from my bike as the pin had seized. Pushed it out but now it won't stay up. It has always dropped in use but won't stay up at all now. How is it held in the 'up' position ?
It doesn't appear to have any for of spring or ball bearing to hold it in place. There is a small hole that looks as though it has a roll pin but I can't see what that is for. The other side looks the same and works perfectly.

Isn't it just held up by pressure from the footrest rubber on the bracket via the square washer? Maybe it just needs a bit of lube?

I’m pretty sure mine go in from the top and are held “ down “ by a split pin.
I’ll go and have a look in a minute. I removed my pillion pegs because I’m always on my own.Yep, the pins drop in the top. A small washer and split pin.

If it's like the R1150R pillion peg (which it might not be), I THINK* there is a ball bearing that is embedded into the peg, and there's a small dimple for the ball bearing to fit into in the peg locating lug. The ball bearing is very close to the mount/pivot pin so it's not "exposed" until you take the peg off - at which point it invariably disappears across the workshop.... Well - unless it's rusted into place obviously!

Yes, it won't stay in the folded up position.
I expected to find the ball bearing set-up as mentioned by Riceburner, there's nothing there, no dimple on the bracket or the peg and no sign of anything on the pegs except the small hole with what looks like a roll pin in it, this isn't covered by the bracket so wouldn't work for a ball bearing. I will try to add a photo of this.

I have taken a photo but don't appear to be able to post it, I guess because I don't subscribe.
The hole I mention doesn't do anything on the peg that works so I guess that is not relevant anyway.

There appears to be a mechanism within the foot peg that allows the peg to be swivel Ed by pulling out and resetting itself.
It rests/sits against the flat part of the carrier assembly…

On reflection I think it is just the rubber holding it in place.
I put the peg back on the bike and it now stays in position, all I did was remove and refit the rubber and grease the pivot pin.
