Pillion seat cover plate

Del couldn't you put the DVR unit into a small waterproof phone / camera bag and seal the holes with tape ?. I use snipers tape to create seals on bags for the same sort of thing.

I've had both the BMW seatplate and the SW Motech equivalent. The SW one is far more substantial with @ 4mm metal. The BMW one I thought was rather flimsy and easily opened with a suitable implement. Bit more expensive, but for me protected what ever you store under your seat far better.
All the best

Quick Q - I want to get one of these plates but I also want (occasionally) to refit the pillion seat when the boss wants a ride.
It looks to me like the BMW plate is a semi-permanent fit but the SW Motech just uses the existing seat lock so the pillion seat is a quick change-over.
Have I got that right ?
TIA

I bought one from Cymark on here. However it wouldn’t fit because i have the strengthening bracket for my topbox fitted. So in order to make it fit i had to remove an inch from the rear of the plate. I was going to put a strip of door edging or similar along where i cut it but i’d changed my mind about using it. So if your looking for a bargain just PM me and i will let it go at a very reasonable price. Del.

I have a bmw seat plate from my now sold gs, it does allow slightly more storage,
The central panel releases with the seat lock,
Pm me if interested,

That's one thing i missed coming from my hex to wet-head.

The hex-head looked odd with the panniers and rear seat in place, coupled with the rear grab bar that didn't work looks wise

but drop the grab bar thingy off, coupled with the panniers, gave you acres of space for bags etc.

I was quite surprised to get a pseudo tail tidy thing on the wet-head, useful albeit tiny .

but still the stupid grab bar arrangement thing But i can see why if your going for a top box..

I saw the infill panel, as an optional accessory , will more than likely get one before year end trips start ;)

I've got the SW Motech strengthening plate too Del - I fitted the Rallye seat and had to trim the strengthening plate to get the small Rally rear plate to fit.

Yeah, i didnt realise having that fitted would affect the plate. So i cut one inch off the rear end to allow it to fit but i decided not to fit it in the end. Must find some trim to fit to the end of the plate and get it up for sale. Its Aluminium so wont rust LOL . Do BMW do a cover plate that works with the OEM front seat ? I've only managed to find one that fits with the Rally seat which is longer than the OEM front one.

Hi Del, its the same as the one in post 7, you can leave the grab handles in place if not mounting a vario case to the plate,

Charlie,

I will get it out and take photos,
Charlie,

You can but then the Vario top box doesn't fit onto the plate.

Ok let me get this straight, if i was to fit a plate like this, then i could fit the oem grab handles too ? The question then is can i fit the strengthening bracket too ? You know the one for the non vario grab handles. ??

I've sent a question to SW Motech "does your pillion seat plate fit with your rack reinforcement plate". I'd have thought the answer would be out there, but most of the examples of the seat plate fitted are on the ADV with the different rear rack arrangement from the standard non-ADV bikes like mine.

Just had a look and it seems you CAN'T fit grab handles while using this plate, so thats my idea out the window. So no grab handles, no strengthening plate.

I've literally, Just this minute, bought one from Motorrad. £109

I've got all the combinations. Standard seat, Rallye seat. I dont use the top box unless Im carrying a pillion, which is very rare, so i dont have the grab rails fitted.
But when touring , long distance I need my standard seat, with my Sheepskin, but the rear passenger seat is not ideal for the Large roll bag across both panniers. So this cover plate will be ideal.

So with this cover you can remove the passenger seat and it doesn't affect the rack or top box ? I use a Givi outback trekker .That cover would be a lot better for carrying my tent than putting on the passenger seat.
Thanks

I saw that in the accessories catalouge, looked interesting, but clearly will only work with the rallaye seat option. ( the seat lock mech is visible on a single seat option)

Why couldnt they just keep the luggage plate option from the hexhead ?

No, the BMW luggage plate won't fit with the Rally seat, you need to use the standard front single seat & the plate fits in place of the pillion seat.
