Pillion seat cover plate

So with this cover you can remove the passenger seat and it doesn't affect the rack or top box ? I use a Givi outback trekker .That cover would be a lot better for carrying my tent than putting on the passenger seat.

Yes but you will have to use the rallye seat. Standard seat wont work with this plate and no it wont effect your topbox as you can still use the grabrails with that set up.

Ahh ok, now next question is would i manage to fit the strenthening bracket under the grab rails with that plate fitted ? Otherwise i would need to find and fit a set of rails that were for the Vario topbox option because they are made of thicker stuff to carry the weight. Thats why the strenghthening bracket wont fit with the Vario grab rails. If your bike was specced when new for Vario luggage then it will have the beefier rails.

I have the three seat set ups now.
Standard two peace seat.
Rallye seat
Standard front seat with luggage plate.
The luggage plate can only be used with the front standard seat. This allows the luggage bag to be seated flat and firm across the whole width. Onto the panniers.

Pity i cant see how far back the luggage plate goes is it under the rails and if so by how much ? If it does not go further than the OEM pillion seat then it might work.

This is the luggage plate I had on my 1150GS (2000)
I was gutted i couldn't find the same for my 15 plate GSA.
It works well and am happy Ive got similar now.

295mm from the centre of the locking pin to the furthest point back. Thats with the seat just clearing the bracket by about 3mm or so.

Why cant someone make just a small plate that infills the opening left when you remove the rear seat.

dosen't have to be anything flash, it's more than likely your going to put something over the top of it.

I might have to go and search the web for a potential solution

If i had this plate, id fit it in such a way that i wouldnt need to take it on and off all the time, after all access can be made from the top by opening the lid. I have my K2 DVR in there and would need access now and again just.

Its the locking mechanism that would make it complicated. And It would need to be lockable.
Shame they dropped it after the 1150 , as it came with the bike.

Yes lockable would be ideal, but when you need it, invariably there would be an object (drybag or tent ) over it. so lockable wouldnt be that much of an issue then

But as you say once you've dropped everything off how would you keep the cover or plate in place ...

This is what I fitted. It's lockable (via the plate stainless steel spigot AKA "nipple-proboscis" which firmly engages into the bikes pillion seat lock aperture / latch slot) and can released via the bike key in the same manner as removing the pillion seat.

1) For extra rigidity and security, I always ensure the plate is firmly held in place with dedicated ancillary webbing straps;

2) When touring, I affix short sacrificial (caravan awning) primary webbing loops to the dedicated plate slots and use these loops to attach my long secondary webbing straps.
