I've just bought a new visor with pinlock for my Tour X but I'm getting some distorted vision with it. It's not noticeable on the open road but in traffic with cars etc close up I see things wobbling a bit when I turn my head:eek:. My wife Rosie has had a pinlock in her Shoei from new and when I tried it I didn't get any distortion. Any similar experiences or ideas?:nenau

keep off the POP :}

no i too have just got a pinlock fitted to my uvex enduro i am suffering a cream like colour in the visor and its sctrached to fook already on the inside??? I have only used damp paper towels with fairy liquid to clean it..

Big D :}

had two and both have soon developed slight cloudiness & fcuked up the visor.

slung them both out.

I cannot get on with pinlocks at all.

I'm a bit of a fanatic about clean visors and pinlocks get scratched very easily even if you are careful.

Plus at night it's a weird effect looking through one.

I use pinlock's all the time... wouldn't be without them .... the only problem I've had is that eventually the silicone bead degrades, and allows a bit of condensation in... but after around a year of use ;)

As far as distortion, have you taken the protective film off the pinlock after fitting :D

They do say you shouldn't use paper towels as they are actually quite abrasive... Read the instructions :augie.
Most distortion I notice is when the visor is open 25%. Apart from that I would not( and could not) be without the pinlock... A tour-x is a disaster without it in anything but perfect weather ( considering I live in Holland and you in the uk.. Less than perfect would be 97% of the time)

I've been using a clear one for 6 months with no problems. In a Tour X3 the visor would look like the inside of a greenhouse without one. Not needed to clean it yet despite a lot of use. Just the outside of the visor.

Can they be repeatedly put on / off ? I wear glasses for most of my riding and would like to use a tinted one for summer riding but will no doubt need to put a clear one in for nightime riding. Or does the silicone bead lose it's tackyness after one or two uses ?

I use one in a Shoei Multitech and its a complete waste of time.

Mists up about the same rate as the rest of the visor (the seal doesn't:blast), and once misted takes an age to clear.

Yep spotted that one!
I rode the 35 miles to the offfice on Monday just to try it out as it was -2deg and not a sign of misting up even in traffic so mostly impressed with it. Pain in the arse keep stopping to spray that pink stuff inside the visor when touring in the rain so won't miss that.

The instructions list all the options for tint etc and say they are interchangeable to suit the conditions but I wouldn't know in practice.:nenau

Also washing up liquid tends to contain salt which is also abrasive.

Don't...

I've had a pinlock in my Shoei for the last three years. Wouldn't be without one.

However DON'T use a V2 Sponge on them either...:blast... One wipe and it's totally US.....Yes I did it, and that was after reading on here that someone said it was a NO NO...

Oh well learnt the hard way...

Used visors with pinlock for a number of years now,would not even consider another helmet if it did not accommodate pinlock.
They must be fitted correctly or it doesn't work,if yours does not work it's not fitted correctly.

I have the Shoei XR1100 and have the clear, dark tint, and hyper optik pinlock inserts. If you're being extra picky they will all give some distortion of vision in certain lights, simply because you are looking through 2 layers. However, for the vast majority of time you won't notice it. I do have to say though that both the clear and hyper optik do make things distorted in the dark (not tried the dark tint obviously), especially lights, but the hyper optik is a lot worse. It does say thought that the hyper optik one is not to be used at night, which does seem to defeat the purpose of having it :blast

Me too. Fitted a DIY tinted Pinlock to my old Shoei five years ago and changed it for a clear one when the weather is crap.

Then bought a Schuberth C3 with Pinlock fitted and I've not had problems with either.

My daughter has a Caberg Konda and the so-called anti-fog visor is useless. I'd like to fit a Pinlock to that but not sure if the DIY one is still available.

My Shuberth S1 Pro has it standard and it works extremely well in all conditions and doesn't have any distortion. Don't need tinted ones either as it has built in sunnies which is also great.

I wish Schuberth did double D ring fasteners rather than the ratchet lock as I find the ratchet locks so uncomfortable :blast

I have a Schubert S2.
Where should I look to get a pinlock / new visor with pinlock? :nenau

Any help appreciated. :thumb2
