Piston Broke

Presumably it would be in the interests of anyone hoping to offload a bike to keep big problems quiet. Can’t imagine any tossers queuing up to buy one…

Yeah. I also want a photo of this other engine with the cam cover off to see how the cams are.
It’s a blooming shame your 2019 bike has such a terminal failure (in need of a major engine rebuild or scrapping) and replacement is difficult to ascertain
If it happened to my 2020 Tenere I would be as fed up, as you are

I plan to keep to old engine and strip it and see if it is salvageable as my labour is free :)
If not sell as is or part it and see if I can recoup anything.

If the old engine hasn’t been stripped yet, you don’t really know the extent of the issue. It may be salvageable.
You may be able to buy the parts it needs second hand or possibly new, rather than a whole replacement engine.

If I’m reading this correctly,
The bike has been at the dealer over a month,
All they have done is a compression check and popped the valve cover off?
You are none the wiser as to what has actually failed, but are looking to source a new engine with no goodwill from KTM?
Why is the bike still in their workshop?

I was thinking that as well
If you have the ability and time.
Why not do it your self

Or bring the bits to Sids, and we can all have a go fixeling it 😎

You are correct.
The French work on a different system. The DEVIS is EVERYTHING. Once they have done their estimate, they are bound by it. I don't need to pay a penny more. Me being cynical thinks that they will inflate the devis to cover their arses.
They have the authorisation to strip it further but have not done so as an engine swap was mooted.

I could do it myself. I hate to pay someone for something I can do - I was an apprentice motor fitter at one time :D

They are supposed to be contacting (today) the vendor of an engine. No update yet.
I'm going to see them on Saturday and see why they have not had the head off.
They seem really concerned about payment and said the bill was already over €150. FFS in the scheme of things that's nowt.

Its still a 4 hour jaunt from here and I don't think I would be allowed to feck off for a week with our only car :D
Bicycle. You'll see the country from a slightly different perspective, and speed, with the wind flowing freely through you hair. :D

Am I missing something here?
Crazy idea but here goes:
Maybe split the motor, look at the damage and take it from there!

From information I have gleaned, the crankcase splits horizontally. The top half includes the cylinders.
Nikasil coated alloy. Not much chance of recovering them "if" they are buggered.

IF, its a big word.
