Piston Broke

A bit more.
I feckin' hate incompetence!

I have steam coming out of me years!

The rack, as fitted to the old bike was plug 'n play. Old rack and grab handles off. Spacers and new rack plate on. Took as much time as undoing and fitting 4 bolts (Screws)

Instead of copying what was on the old bike, they took it upon themselves to fit the grab handle part of the old rack that were NOT on the bike. This threw out the alignment because the supplied spacer were not used.
What to do. Oh, lets put a fucking drill bit down all 4 of the holes and elongate them so it fits! Uttercunts.
Also the wedge plates on the underside have become detached, They have, of course, broken the powder coat so that will start oxidising.

Beggars belief really.
The rack was fitted the week before the engine died and has never been used.

After some discussion with the dealer, I will have the cruise control activated as a sweetener for the rack cock-up.
I managed to press the alignment wedges back in and with a small dab of loctite, they are all good. I will need to paint or plasticize the area though.
CC will be activated when I go to get the new centre stand springs.
All good :)

Last update on my old 790.
Dealer sold it to a guy that's going to turn it into a track bike so I'm never likely to know what busted.

KTM will be lucky to survive, they do not just suffer from financial woes. Their build quality and quality of after sales is shocking.
My 1290 Superduke dropped a valve just after first service this year. No problem, warranty…
But being France and a holiday (most days here it seems..) what a farce. Their breakdown service not up to acceptable standard.
Anyway, short story, took nearly 3 month to get the bike fixed and back with a repaired engine.
A month ago, a flat battery. Ok, easy sorted. Except when the seat lock will not work, meanwhile the key (fob) falls apart in hand when trying to open said lock….argh!!! Sorted it myself, took an hour, less time than dealing with KTM.
Love how it rides but zero faith in product and company.

Don't you have recovery with your insurance?

I grew up on old Brit Iron. Now most of that really was shite.
I have had 4 KTM's. Loved the 950 but back then they were sold through dirt bike shops that had no clue about road bikes. The 250 SX-F, fabulous but piston/barrels were almost a service item. Current 790 is great - Chinese made.
