Planning a trip and servicing

We’re heading over to France and Germany at the beginning of July for the Garmisch Motorrad event, before I get home my bike will need a service, now it’s still under warranty but can I get a service gone in Germany and it won’t affect anything warranty wise as long as it’s a BMW Motorrad dealer?

I could get it serviced before going but I’d be losing about 2000 miles I’m Welsh and tighter than a ducks chuff

I guess the real question is has anyone been in a similar situation?

A service from any BMW Motorrad dealer will be fine and not affect warranty. The problem you may encounter, is booking a slot that suits your trip schedule.
Personally, I would have it done before the trip. However, if you have an inclusive service plan, you may need to pay for an early service.

Your big problem will be matching miles to location, once you are reasonably sure you can do that, its then matching a dealer to a location,

And then its whether they have availability at that time.

And then you have to factor in your supplying dealer might not be to forthcoming if something subsequently goes wrong

The stance i got was almost, return your bike to the supplying dealer as we dont know what has been done previously

Unlike cars motoraad dont centralise service details

I went on holiday with a split service
The milage critical stuff waited until i was on/ over the miles (you can go 1k over for some stuff). The non mileage critical stuff. - oil/ filter was done early

You have a Premium, product, put yer hand in yer wallet yer tight sod

You could book your bike in advance with Martin, biggest BMW dealer Souther Bavaria, good man..

This happens to me most years, I bite the bullet and get the bike serviced before I go. Bike gets a look over before a big trip and I don’t want to be faffying about while I’m on holiday.

It doesn't matter if your service is a little too early or a little late. It won't affect your warranty. Go any enjoy your trip and have it serviced when you get back.

Just get it serviced, so you can go away with nice clean oil and depending upon which service it is maybe a clean air filter or nice sharp bled brakes etc

Cheers all, I called motorrad this afternoon to get booked in for a service before going the only kick in the spuds is the oil and filter with brake fluid change is £320 then 2000 miles after I get back been told I’ll need the big service at 12,000 miles argh this is probably why I’ve never had a vehicle with warranty before

You’re getting half of it done there so the rest will be less painful

The valve check is cheap on boxers compared to anything else and plugs are easy to get to as is the air filter

I'm trying to get mine booked in for its run in service (Scotland) and can't get anything before mid June/July supposed to be going to Italy on it 2 weeks today

For me it would partly depend on how long I was going away for as you’ll probably have to set aside a whole day for the service.
I’ve had my old F800GS serviced in a few different countries and never had a problem with any of the BMW workshops.
The bike was out of warranty though so not so important I suppose.

If your trip is a short one either get it done before you go or go a few miles over and get your preferred dealer to do it on your return.

Am i missing something? why not just get the 12k service done now, youre sorted for another 6k then?

They wont change the oil twice , so your splitting the service into 2 manageable chunks

only just by Googles its 950 each way, garmin itll be less so you might be a few hundred over after having a play around on the alpine passes

i've been 1000 over and nowt has been said, just go and enjoy yourself

Be the bikes only on 7000 miles now the dealer said they won’t do the 12000 mile service early
Called BMW head office today and got told I can be up to 1000 miles or 1 month over before it’ll effect warranty

Wife has planned a route that takes us to Verdon then Monaco, lake Garda then Garmisch so google maps says around 1650 miles plus whatever to get home again, to be fair I’m not overly impressed with my dealer on the servicing front - bike sales was brilliant but bloody awful after sales so trying to reduce how much more cash they get

If you’re using Chester, I’ve no faith in them either. Gave them a go recently and the service department failed to deliver miserably. Have taken my trade back to Williams in Manchester.

Course sales were brilliant, they want your money. Now they have it, your just one of many, take the bike back for a trade in on A spanky new one and see what happens
