Well I always carry duck tape and again I have had to use it....

The hinges on one of the panniers have busted wide open. It has not been overfilled although I did try and fail to close whilst loading yesterday so moved stuff to another pannier.

I am sure it will get repaired under warranty but.....

There has to be a better solution.... I do not want it happen again!

Has anybody tried replacing the hinges with something more durable?

Just Ordered the replacement hinges.....

£16.60 plus VAT EACH....

then to cap it all my anger smilies were tooo many for this post and the error messages says go back to correct but you cannot because the page has expired....

:firemth :shout :shoot: :argue :bash :spitfire

Ah, perhaps unecessary then as both creatures are waterproof without the application of tape

yeah but more fun than fox hunting

by the by, there is a rather flimsy tape branded as "duck tape".

i think duct tape is a term more used in the states. it's often called gaffer tape here, and is easier to say.

did anyone else used to read the duct tapes by ed hertfelder in cycle mag years ago? i thought it was very funny, at the time i was doing enduros myself.

Two things:-
1 Don't buy those mBw panniers, they are total sh1t, I wouldn't throw them in my scrap bin in case someone saw them. I'm not banging my own drum here, I just hate seeing people get ripped off, and those mBw things are the biggest rip off I've seen in years. Total crap, but anything rather than those.
2. It's Duct tape, because it was for sealing rivetted joins in air conditioning systems. Roadies latched on to it years later, and the road racing fraternetiy after that.
PS, My panniers are ace, Doh:D

1. Thanks mate, too effing late, I will make them work...

2. i am told it started out being produced by alcan/alcoa to supplement their aluminium extrusion connections...

duct tape

Duct tape is originally the shiny silver stuff for air con duct sealing as Vern has pointed out. Useful but not brilliant when compared to TESA

The ONE and ONLY tape to use is TESA tape - much stronger and stickier than any other known tape in the universe. ( and pricier probably )

I've just bought some 'advance' tape, water proof, air tight and very very sticky. Seems to be very much like the old stuff we used to use before all the crap stuff came on the market.
Is TESA tape that shiney silver stuff?
