Please reply if you have had corroded parts replaced under warranty

Mine's going in on Thursday for photos of the rear drive near the rear brake mountings. Warranty expires at the end of this month. I will post the response from the dealer. I asked for them to look at it at the last service but they offered no explanation when I picked it up - I had to ask for their comment and was told I could just put some lacquer on it.....::eek
Needless to say I was having none of it......

I had one rocker/cam cover replaced due to a bit of corrosion after 22 months. BMW paid for 1/2 cost of part. Bike ridden in all weathers.
Cheers, Michael.

On my 2006 GS I had the timing plate at the front of the engine replaced and the complete shaftdrive as the middle of the spindle area went rusty.
No questions asked.

On my 2008 ADV same areas have gone but neither Vines or South London (whenit was south London) would put in a warranty

the frame under the seat, and by the pillian pegs of my 06 GSA has huge rust patches. does anyone think BMW will do anything about this and how should i approach this.

Front engine cover and rear light unit changed under warranty within the first two years.

Bike is now 5 years old, engine cover has gone again, the paint is coming off the final drive, blistering on the fuel filer cap, blistering on the engine cooling fins and general signs of corrosion around most fasteners. All from a bike that is washed and cleaned regularly, not used in winter months and kept in a garage.

Hopefully Honda will bring out a decent rival in a couple of years. BM have too many recurring problems throughout the range.

Why can't they build a bike with Japaneese build quality and reliability in a GS.

One of the screws in my filler cap is showing signs of corrosion on my 3.5 years old GS. :( They don't build them like they used to :augie Apart from that no other problems.

I rarely ever wash my bike. Just spray on WD40 and wipe the bike clean with a WD 40 soaked rag. Just the way I have done on all my bikes since 1974 and never had corrosion problems. Used WD40 in the forces on Helicopters on flight decks at sea, so thought if its good enough for them then that will do nicely on my bikes. On the GS I now top up the protection with a coating of FS365 or AC50 every now and then.

I had a R100GS from new and when I sold it at about 2 years old it was in excellent condition, though covered in a film of WD40. Saw it 6 months later outside a dealer and it was covered in corrosion.
