Hi,
Going to use pocket PC in an aquabox for my routing on my bike.

I am very used to TOMTOM and GARMIN software.

I have tomtom7 europe currently installed and use it daily in the car.

Problem is Im not sure if I can use tomtom for pre-planning?

Is there any software available so I can preplan and import routes etc (just like city navigator (which I have)) using the tomtom program?

IF NOT: -

Is there a garmin product that will do this and run just like my zumo (I no longer have:()

THANKS IN ADVANCE:)

I don't know the answer to your question, however I used a Medion PDA with built in GPS and software. It was shockingly poor on battery life (despite getting a new battery) so had to be connected to the bikes battery. It worked, but my biggest problem was the aquabox, with the rubber screen in place I couldn't see a damned thing.

In the end I mounted it behind the screen above the instruments and found I didn't need the rubber screen unless it absolutely hammered it down.

Forgot to say, my PPC runs WVGA @ 800x480. Tomtom 7 supports this but not sure of a garmin product that does.:(

Battery life is no problemn, as I use it already but the screen issue obviously is:( This is quite off putting. I have a touch HD PPC and the screen is really nice and bright. In fact way brighter than my zumo was. Dont know if this will make any difference?

I've seen you other post asking for a picture, so I'll post it here, rather than there...

Erm, it's an aquabox. I bought it when I first got the GS as I get lost too easy, but fancied having a PDA for work too.

I'm sorry but I don't know which specific model it is.

I'll send a couple of full size pictures in a minute or two Peter.

Thanks for that.
From the picture, it looks like you have a gap between the pda and the rubber screen protector. Is that so and if so could that not have affected the output from the screen?
Can the pda be packed further forward so the screen meets the cover?

There was a bit of a gap. It might've been possible to push it forwards, but I'd drilled the bottom of the box to allow the battery connection into the PDA. I used to put a piece of rubber or foam behind the top of the PDA which pressed it forwards into the frame and stopped it vibrating too much.

The aquabox in real life is rubbish - the front screen is the issue. By trying to make it touchable they neglected the view-ability, which in medium light is very poor. New PDA/phones also use gestures which this material isn't good for.

I'm trying to remember the name of the thing I've got on mine it's sooo much better. Hmmm...

Something like "easyrider", doing my nut thinking what it is.

That looks spot on for me.

Does it support touch screen If so does it work ok?

Thanks Snoopy:)

It's the best you're gunna get. TomTom on my HTC Diamond on it is useable but not with gloves. You can easily see the screen though. :beerjug:

thats same as my set up. can you do routing using tomtom with something like mapsource or even import routes?

Mapsource is Garmin. You can put Garmin XT on instead of TomTom but it's pretty poor in terms of accuracy and performance compared to TomTom.

This wee program HERE uses google maps to pre plan your route then it an save it in a format TomTom or Gramincan use,

I find it a bit clunky also can you not save routes as a GPX file in mapsource and then use a program to convert it in to the TomTom file.
