Just spent the best part of a day cleaning a very dirty bike and noticed that there is a little 'aerofoil/spoiler' on the l/h side panel but not on the r/h panel.

What's that all about then

PS Whoever said that cast wheels are easier to clean than spoke wheels was talking complete bo%&ox as my knuckles will testify
;)

If you look at the bike, it is asymmetrical left-to-right. This spoiler is obviously to balance out the asymmetry due to drag on the bike at speed. I'm sure BMW engineers have worked months in the wind tunnel to develop this:D :spl1f:

Or at least seconds over a Stien in the bar.:D

You've got it a great deal cleaner than I ever get mine. What did you use on the cylinder fins?

It's a secondary frame slider, just in case the primary one (valve cover and such) is completely ground off. :P

Probably looks cleaner than it is 'cos of the flash, but, basically a thin bit of rag inserted in each 'groove' and elbow grease!

I'm signed off work at the mo. and can't ride the bike for two more weeks so have a lot of spare time on my hans :(
I'm not usually that anal about cleaning, prefer riding the thing :)

I think the Monkey has it!

I've been up burning the midnight Solstice oil and, have removed parts, weighed them and constructed a make-shift wind tunnel using a fan sourced and the local car-boot and some toilet rolls.

It would appear that the single sided swing arm provides a higher drag coeficient on the r/h side of the bike. This is partly offset by the exhaust on the l/h side of the bike. However, due to the velocity of the exhaust gasses exiting the pipe the bike will want to turn right. With the addition of the aerofoil however, the air flow along the l/h side of the bike is interupted and forces the exhaust gasses to curl around the back of the bike and thus order is restored - it would appear that the 'crap catcher' has an effect on this dynamic, unforunatly I could not progress further as I ran out of toilet rolls.

PS You're f****d if you run a Remus
