Is it possible to get Polish map detail on ther quest?

Ben

Yes, but only by using a third party map set.......the base map has hardly anything on it andthe normal Garmin mapsets don't cover it.

GPMapa 4.0 is the most detailed and accurate digital map of Poland for Garmin GPS units. This version of GPMapa allows autorouting on all the new Garmin GPS divices (22-Feb-06). GPMapa 4.0 contains detailed address dataset of 1000 cities and communities, settlement and detailed road maps in Poland. The city maps contain full street network with names and addresses, park areas, waterways, railways and administrative boundaries. The topographical map outside the cities shows road network, forests, rivers, lakes, railways and over than 47000 settlements.

I actually used GPMapa 4 six weeks ago & can definately recommend it. In fact, just by looking at the screen it was almost impossible to tell the difference between GPMapa 4 and City Navigator 7. Although I had a paper map, I didn't need to look at it once the whole time I was there, as I had already chosen my waypoints and downloaded them before I left home.

You download the maps etc onto Mapsource just like City Navigator etc.

If your interested in knowing more about it, PM me your telephone number. In fact, I've still got the maps on my 2610, so if you wanted to see them and have a play just collar me at the Hogroast. :thumb

Never easy is it.

Anyway many thanks for the info.

Taff, thanks for the offer. Better if I stick to a paper map, I think

Ben......you can also use a good online mapping site to get some lat/longs or look through some of the many many waypoint listing sites for Poland specific waypoints.....if you have any particular places you want to go to you can programme them in to your GPS unit.....you won't get mapping but at least you'll be able to follow the direction and home in on them :thumb

It was surprisingly easy - even I managed to do it, but what did bring tears to my eyes was paying for it. :D :D

My time was short (just 1 week in Poland & the rest in Germany) and I wasn't in a position to lose any time if I was to see what I'd planned, so I just bit the bullet and paid up. I probably could have done it all on just paper maps, but I can almost guarantee that I wouldn't have seen everything I did, AND my stress level would have rocketed. :D

Its your money - its your choice. When I've finished it, I may stick the trip report inc photos and waypoints on here.
