when trying to plan a route with the nav iv using basecamp, it wont let me zoom in to any sort of street map, showing no detail at all, i admit to being a complete numpty at this, so does anyone know what im doing wrong?

You have to have your sat-nav plugged in.

:beerjug:

No you don't.............Well not on an IMac anyway!

Has the OP got the 'Detail' slider cranked right over to the '+' as far as it will go, and is zoomed in fully?

If I do that with the 'labels' box ticked I get street names showing.

You have the have the sat nav plugged in or the map unlocked. If the map is not unlocked then it defaults to the generic map.

If you look in the toolbar there is an option as to what map you are using. Make sure it doesn't say "Global Map" as that's the basic map with not much detail. If your GPS is plugged in or you've installed an unlocked version of the maps you should see them listed in the drop down. Mine says "City Navigator Europe NT 2013.4"

Oh yes you do! On my iMac anyway.
Ever since I've had lifetime updates I've never been able to update Basecamp and Zumo. Always have to have unit plugged in which is APITA.

maps are unlocked on my iMac, and get detail whether unit plugged in or not.

i have lifetime updates.

Can't and wasn't commenting on yours or the OP's merely the experience on mine. :thumb

And like Cookie I too have lifetime updates.

I have lifetime updates too which means a lifetime of problems updating them. I wish Garmin would actually test the product before releasing updates onto the masses and then find out that it doesn't work. :anger
