I let my bike have an unintended lie down while away in France last week and I've scratched / gouged the screen and bent various bits (see other threads  ).

Has anyone had any success polishing out (or at least improving the appearance) of scratches / gouges like this and if so, what's the best stuff / technique to use? It's a tinted screen if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance and apologies for turning the 1200 section into my personal self help forum

I had good results using Solvol Autosol on a polishing drum in a Dremel on a slow speed The scratches were not deep though.

Google "Xerapol". I've used it on my clocks, after putting my metal edged Golves on them, and it got every scratch off.

Thanks all.
I'll get hold of some Xerapol. I think I'll have to attack the scratches with wet and dry first (which is a bit scary on £250 worth of plastic!) but nothing ventured...

I dont know, but you need to work out if the tint is all through the plastic or just a surface finish before going too hard at it. My guess would be all through, but I have made that guess before and turned scratches on many a pair of sunglasses into bigger problems!

If the tiny is surface only you should be able to tell with a magnifying glass look at the scratches.
The OEM screens are silly money but they also crack and craze at the mounting holes. I've already said my fix for the problem.

Good point :thumb2

I think it's all through but I'll try it on the hidden bit at the lower pivots first...

Buy a headlight polishing kit off ebay. It's the same type of plastic. Any polishing you do will change the tint in that local area as the plastic will be thinner.

Another option is to sand the scratches out finishing them and the whole screen with 600 grit wet and dry then clear coat the whole thing. I would recommend 2k as it is more durable.

Xeropol is the job. The kit contains a few small bits of very fine wet and dry emery paper.

If you're feeling brave, one option is to flame polish, there'll be some YouTube clips but might work on the edge .

All at your own risk of course.

I've heard about this.

I'm no where near brave enough to try it on a £250 screen:)

Of course you could just leave it and ride a bike that looks like a proper Gelande-Strasse :blast

Yebbut it was nice before I was an idiot and now it's not ;)

I'd like it to be nice again (or at least nicer than it is at the moment).

Give it a try with increasing grades of wet & dry paper, lots of water and a rubbing block. Then shine with Xerapol. If it ends up looking kak, go for a Givi.
