Ponderosa in trouble ?

I'm sure you know of it but, there is of course also The Old Stores cafe on the A5104 Corwen road just up from the Wrexham Mold road the A541 that's worth a mention. Parking can get crowded there too. Great bike themed cafe.
Tony , the Old Stores have built a new overflow car park across the road, about 50 yds down. I think the original plan was the new car park is for cars, to keep the riverside one bikes only.

Can anyone shed some light on the latest Ponderosa situation. Open under new ownership, still closed or shut down etc.?
I fancy a trip up there tomorrow and wondered if I need to take my own brewing paraphernalia. Thanks.

Still closed. I'm off to the Old Stores tomorrow dinnertime :)
Dont forget to braid yer beard , and last Wednesday’s bike nite there was lad with a bagger special , 25 plate with “ YMCA” tight denim SHORTS on riding around the car park. Eclectic doesnt even touch it

Thanks. As it's going to be a nice day I'll still venture up there with my brewing kit and use the picnic tables. If they're not there I'll be reduced to brewing on the wall, as seen in post #42.🙂

If you go straight on at the last roundabout instead of turning left to the Horeshoe Pass , and take the Corwen road you will come to the Rhug estate farm shop on the left. Avoid their coffee and tea ( overpriced) but their Bison burgers ( still expensive) are delicious.

Must have been 15 or so bikes there when we pulled up a couple of weeks ago.

Their bacon and egg baps are excellent. But +£10 for one of those and a white coffee is a bit steep.
I often pass the Ponderosa. I'm amazed it hasn't been vandalised or burned down. The top of one of those hills was set alight a couple of years ago, there was a fire engine there for weeks.

The Old Stores must be having a great time. They're literally taking ALL the traffic from the Ponderosa.

I've been a couple of times this summer and it's just TOO busy.. There was a queue 30 people long to get served. No space in the small carpark. I couldn't be arsed waiting an hour for a brew so carried on.

Its almost like people haven't got the imagination to go elsewhere.

Bikers haven’t generally

Motorcyclists have and go elsewhere for something to eat/drink

I avoid ‘biker’ cafes like the plague and the only one here worth frequenting is the Fimber cafe during the day, midweek and it’s less busy and the homemade food is excellent
(2 mugs of tea and 2 homemade cakes for a fiver)

Agree about the Old Stores. And I.m another who avoids biker cafes - especially now that I am so old and decrepid that I ride a scooter.

We called in many years ago on one of our three wales trips (never again by the way) and it reminded me of squires on the one time we called there. Mostly knobheads complaining about the police pulling them for riding like dickheads. As you say “biker” places are to be avoided like the plague.
Elaine’s tearoom is another great cafe for cakes. We use a golf club for breakfast on many of our day rides and obviously Johnny Baghdads.

Likewise only been to the Ponderosa once and it was dire

JB’s is fantastic and voted one of top 5 cafes in Yorkshire-their Guinness cake is sublime …..yet everyone else goes across the square to the ‘hatch’ & eats it from a polystyrene container ?

I don’t get it

I also love the simplicity, no nonsense and Yorkshire feel of Blind Beck

Where’s Elaine’s (you can pm me if it’s secret 🙃😉)

Elaine’s is at Feizor off the dreaded A65. Yeah I don’t get the hordes going to the border cafe across the square either but I’m glad they do.

Oh yeah - we go there sometimes too

We call it Feizor cafe, but it’s Elaine’s - another quirky one

Yes Elaines is a great stop off place half-way round one of our regular dog walks. A bit too near home for a bike ride.
You say quirky , Jonathan ( husband) now he's quirky :ROFLMAO:

Shed 24 is another good breakfast stop. It is near home but a round about route to it pretty easy to make. There’s often some old Brit bikes outside.

For north wales alternatives
Sams in Denbigh next to A&D
Chain and Sprocket Ruthin next to the Ducati guy Rich Moto-R
Old Stores I avoid TBH
