Have my 1100GS parked in my shed but there's an awful smell of petrol in there.

Any ideas what it could be? I can't see any petrol dripping down on the floor. Could it be a loose filler cap, knackered hoses etc?

Maybe I should flick a match in there and see where the fire starts.

Have you got quick connect fuel pipes, because the O rings sometimes perish on them.

If not,the match will answer all your questions:D

This happens with my 1100 when it's pretty full - drips out of one of the breather pipes by the right footrest. It stops when the tank gets down to about 3/4 full. I think that either one of the internal hoses has perished or a pipe clip has lost its grip. I'll be taking a look this winter when I change the fuel filter.

I'll be putting an ADV tank on soon so I might have a chance to look at the hoses. I know the previous owner had quick disconnects on so they could be the problem also.

I think the tank is about half full at the minute.

Three easy steps to a good 'pong of petrol'

1) Get out your Black and Decker and do the widely lauded fuel filler modification

2) Fill her up

3) Simply park her up and enjoy the smell, accompanied by the tinkle tinkle of petrol hitting your garage floor. Wonderful.

Some talcum power should show if any of the connectors are weeping as opposed to dripping petrol.

Found the source.....

After a detailed and very thorough inspection of the bike, I realised I didn't lock the petrol cap and it was ajar. Issue now resolved..............
