Poor running, having replaced battery

Hi Folks, grateful for some advice. I haven't ridden my German import 1999 1150GS for a while (snow, Christmas, bad back etc etc). Tried to start it a week or so ago, and realised that the battery is fried. Replaced it having carefully followed various bits of advice on this forum. Started her up today and she runs like a pig. Spluttering, hesitant, won't idle properly, smells like she's overfuelling, surges, backfires much more than normal and feels altogether lumpy. Checked both cylinders both felt similary warm. Took out the plugs (they are, what I assume, are twin sparks - as they have two curvey electrodes to a single centre electrode - apologies for the non-technical language - not an engineer!). They looked a little bit blackened but nothing serious so I cleaned em up and put them back. It seems to start a little better but no improvement in idling, lumpiness etc. Any thoughts as to what might be wrong? Bike's done 43000 miles. Could I have done (or not re-done) something when I replaced that tank after doing the battery? Any advice gratefully recd.:nenau

Small silly thing....

..... but it is what happened to me, too. How great is it to have a forum like this, where you can get your "ass back in the boat".

Make sure yer throttle cables are sat right in their cups/where they fit
I have had the same problem as have hundreds on here :rob

Folks,

Just loked at Piccies, looked at Bike and ....yep, one of the cables is out of it's holder. will start it up tomorrow - wound down battery trying various things this afternoon. But I am 100% confident that you've hit the nail on the head. Many many thanks. You're stars.:clap

A nice end to a particularly sh*tty day. wasted £45 worth of pertrol and closed a filling station this afternoon when I found out that the fuel tank on my Corsa leaked so badly. Quoted £300 to fix..So will go to bed with at least a small smile on my face tonight.
