Wanted Porsche Boxster wanted

Hello guys

I’ve decided to embark on a little Euro tour/drive, having come to the conclusion it would be best in a Boxster so I can have the roof down. Don’t have the budget for a 911 and the Boxster will be more than adequate for my trip

After carrying out a bit of research it appears the 2.9 987 (gen 2) is the model to go for from 2009-2012.
The various online sites are full of all manner of cars with varying service history and condition, but none have grabbed my attention.

Anyone have one for sale or wanting to share advice/recommendations greatly appreciated.

Maximum budget is £11k, I will probably sell it on my return (well hope to without too much of a loss)

If it’s very hot, you’ll want to have the roof up and the air conditioning on turbo.

I always thought the 3.2 S was the better of the Boxster's engines, but I have only ever driven my pals one a couple of times. So my knowledge of them is limited to that.
But wow, it could handle, not the fastest, but close enough.

The issue was with earlier cars. The gen 2 didn’t suffer from this. Hence my decision to only look at this model.

Look on piston heads auction. Plenty of good ones come up on there. I was going to get one until I found out I was getting a conservatory and new kitchen!

Also you want the 12 year PDK service done. There's also some independent bods who'll do the inspection for you.

Good luck with that budget, I’m looking too currently and the Gen 2 cars carry a big premium.

handling allows you not to slow down for the corners.
scares the shit out of passengers !

I'm presuming the trip is this year? If not, I'd suggest waiting until the depths of Winter to buy (or maybe delay the trip until next Spring or Summer...and again, buy in Winter, sell in high summer after said trip)

Yes mate. Was planning on going mid September once it cools down a bit. In an ideal scenario yes but the car in October/November and do the trip next year, if it doesn’t happen this year it’s no big deal. I had this brainwave one day…..‘why don’t I do a road trip in an affordable sports car, instead of a GS’ as men do one evening browsing eBay

I’ve only just started my search in earnest, but have come to the conclusion I would like to done trip in a sports car and not a grand tourer, planning on driving the twisties in France and Italy.

I've done a couple of French 'tours' in Boxsters. On the first one the A/C packed up halfway to the south coast. Feck me it was hot driving around in an open car.
Last year I took my latest Boxster to Biarritz to meet up with some mates (from here) on bikes. Seemed like a good idea to give it a run and use the car for shopping trips. The A/C was a blessing on the long sections there and back. It can get quite debilitating driving for hours in blazing sun with the roof down and with the increase in road noise at anything over 60mph.

If you are determined to have an open topped car, I’d maybe look at an MX5. Cheaper overall to buy and a decent potential for a half reasonable price when you come to sell it on.

If they’d stuck a ‘Made in Stuttgart’ badge on the front, they’d have cost an awful lot more.

That said, the luggage space on the Boxster / Cayman is something else….. if indeed that is important.

Had an MX5 NC a good few years ago, it was a great little car and probably 75% of the car a Boxster is for half the price....but if looking...do be on the lookout for rust, the latest ND models from 2015 aren't as bad but there are some shockers on the NA-NC...Mk 1 to Mk 3
