Have I missed something or does it tell you what sort of problem it is and what bikes are affected anywhere???

- and would it affect the bike in the picture on the left?

No............your 650's ok

All 1150/1200's series boxers equipped with ABS brakes, powered by Servo Assistance (Powered Integral) braking systems, I would expect.

A letter is being sent out to 1000 owners of integral ABS bikes offering them a free check of their brake systems if they have any concerns. We will check for fault codes and perform a bleed test. If the take up of the offer is high more letters will be sent out.

Not just you thats quite - I've not much in at all. :(

Looking forward to next year now. A few of our year round riders still around but it's slow.

Well the site works then, maybe BMW and/or its dealers read this site, i'll keep at it.

Bollox,

If I get a letter and have the test done do you think they'll notice I've ripped all the servo bits out :nono :nono

Maybe I should have waited :D :D :D

This has taken a long time to surface.

The service chappy at Vines told me there would be a 'safety check recall' starting in December when I was speaking to him in early October.

Belgium BMW riders received an annex to their manual stating the ABS brakes could refuse duty after repeatedly activating the ABS. They say this could only happen during riding courses but not in real life situations... :mmmm

First rule of life -

If it can happen, it will .

Most things seem to break when I least need them to, don't tell me my BWM won't brake when I really need it to. :D :D :D

So the responsibility is now shifted to the owner? Good move.
If they have any concerns.
And if they don't read this post, use this website, know nothing about potential problems or even more likely know nothing about ABS systems?
I am deeply suspicious.

MCN Brake artical

With regards to the MCN article of this Wednesday (21 December) I would also confirm contrary to the suggestion of the article "the brake failures" occurred during an extensive demonstration period and not whilst riders were training with the machines. The alleged battery failure was not a technical failure rather than the battery becoming discharged from the repeated operation of the ABS pump over a short time period. This article has been very misleading to the public and we have received many telephone calls from customers who have taken delivery of brand new motorcycles who will not have received a letter.

I suspect that the only time the ABS would repeatedly be activated by anyone would be off-road (for UK riders anyway), for which they recommend switching the ABS off, so I can't see why anyone is worried at all.
I suspect some people may be getting the ABS operation mixed up with the Servo operation.

Just ride it..........

I know of 2 people who's servo brakes failed while driving in london traffic - due to excessive use !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - ( both K1200RS's )

What are you meant to do ? not use them to much.

Like all major design/faults = If something can go wrong, it will .

Steptoe,

I assume that you mean the Servo failed, ie Stopped working due to them developing faults, not as a result of the battery voltage dropping too low to operate them, which if my understanding is correct is what this warning is about.

I'm sure it was the voltage drop - one guy was told he was using the brakes excessively - as if youhave a choice in london traffic -

both got rid of their bikes soon after
