Hi,
Can anyone tell me the power rating for the standard underseat power socket on the GSA?
I was hoping to use a tyre pump with this socket, but I'm not sure if the socket is rated for this?

Yup. 5Amp or thereaboots. The Canbus will cut it off above that.
Pretty much guarantee your tyre pump wont work.
Run it off crock clips from the battery or, even better, run a separate power socket direct from the battery with a fuse.

Don't forget to run the engine while using the tyre pump !!!!!

And be sure to turn the bugger off again as soon as you've finished.

Air cooled boxer twin engines are not designed to stand idling without airflow across the cylinders, they quickly overheat and can melt the oil sight glass and carburise the oil, or in worse cases engine damage can result. The exhaust headers soon start glowing red.

Sorry for the scare story but want to warn you in case you are new to BMW air cooled bikes.

Yes, 5 amps. My cycle pump trips the aux socket. I fitted an extra socket in the cut out at the winglets, wired direct to battery with an in line fuse.
For topping up a few PSI I seem to be OK with engine off; maybe I am living on borrowed time, right on the edge.

Thanks guys.

Pukmeister, I have noticed that these bikes do heat up a bit if your in slow stop/start traffic. I got held up at roadworks the other night and noticed that the bikes temperature gauge started to rise and thought the bike was running a bit rougher when it got hotter. It didn't reach any critical temperatures, but it was definately noticable.

Try a summers day in hot traffic circa 2004 with10W40 oil in the sump, followed by oil pressure lamp on and bottom end knock unless revved. BMW then went to thicker oil and cured it.

As I said, don't run the engine unless you intend to ride it.

Do a search and see for yourself.
