Hello

I have the socket installed on the bike on the windshield mount bar as it was pre installed on this model.

Can someone explain to me that when you try use a tyre compressor it shuts off/like a breaker has gone and then you have to reset the bike.

But i have a 3 way split cig size 12v when i connect that up it works

so i have the hella lead that has the cig converter on which it shorts on.
then when i connect the 3 way splitter to the hella converter it works

Do people install another from the battery.

Or has anyone every connected one into the panniers from the battery??

The canbus disconnects that circuit when it becomes overloaded and then resets it when it is cycled again. Not sure why your 3 way splitter allows it to work?

I have connected a separate lead via a Fuzebox terminal direct from the battery - this terminates in an "optimate" style socket which I then have the female version of this on a flexi X tension lead with a female Hella socket on the end - I run my pump off of this and it means I can then do front and rear or pump another bikes tyres without too much trouble.

I also have the engine running when I have the pump running.

The lead just sits under the passenger seat.

Thank you.
I think i will do that and fit another i have no idea why it works from the splitter it makes me uneasy that something will go horribly wrong with it.
iv tried a few different pumps and all have done the same.

Also so your not running an inline fuse you have it from the fuse box.

You are drawing more than 5 amps. CANBus will disable the socket in that case. Compressors and such like is best run straight from the battery.

Any permanent wiring to the battery would ideally have a fuse in the positive lead close to the battery, this avoids overloading the cable capacity and any risk of fire,,
The scotch lock type fuse holders can corrode, like the one in the nippys kit, ideally a rubber covered fuse holder and heat shrink joints to keep water out,

I guess that your compressor takes only marginally more than what the Canbus allows before cut off, the 3 way adaptor must reduce the current flow just a little (contact resistance etc) so that the current draw is just below the magic cut off level.
Just a guess.

yeah was just thinking that.
Running straight from batt with no inline fuse??

That is not what I said. Standard practice is to always have protection on a circuit. 7,5 or 10 amps depending on the equipment would suffice for your needs.

Hi
I have an in line fuse to the power feed from the battery to the Fuzebox (these are available from Nippy Normans) the instructions say the max amp fuse you should use is 30 amp - this is high for this type of application so I have a 20 amp in line fuse.
The Fuzebox allows you to then choose each circuit fuse amperage - on the compressor line I have 15 amp and it has never blown yet. You can also choose on the Fuzebox if you want the circuit live all the time or switched by the ignition.

There is another terminal fuse box available ( think it is a PDM 60 ) which is more expensive it it is better than the Fuzebox because it is programable with a laptop and it is slimmer and waterproof.....

I have Bluetooth / 2 way radio / autocom / pump line all fitted through the Fuzebox and it has served me well for the last few bikes.

I've used an Optimate fused tail lead (with weatherproof cap) connected to the Aux terminals located under the left side triangular cover. The socket end is cable-tied to the frame & can be easily accessed for charging/power.
To connect my compressor, I bought an Optimate plug (£1 eBay!) to replace the original car style plug.
A cheap & easy solution.

something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OPTIMATE-...-FUSED-EYELET-LEAD-SAE71-SAE-71-/251042981552

so what your saying because im a little bit dim is you used one of the above then you took the optimate connector cut it and replaced it with a female cig socket.

forget that you took the compressor socket off and changed that with for an optimate end

Riktus how did you even go about doing this i feel so under educated iv not had the bike long before i was working on a cbr from the 90s

All i really need it for is to run a compressor i wont be running anything else on it. but anything that involves to much tech blags my suede. and wallet

It's simple enough;
1. Connect a new BMW DIN style socket direct (but with an 10A in-line fuse on the live side) to the battery. You can run your compressor off this socket.

2. If you have an optimate charger that can't do* CANBus then use the available DIN plug accessory and use the socket from 1. To charge your battery too :beerjug:

* a CANBus powered socket need a special type of charger

Ok its starting to make sense now my idea was just to do you number 1 jobby i now understand the canbus system thanks to google. i dont have a canbus style charge but i have one which i can change over to opitmate one.

your number 1 solution makes more sense to me as thats all i will be running from the socket if ever needed.

guessing its of to nippy normans then

No, I think you may have misunderstood my post!
The Optimate lead is Standard, terminating with an Optimate style Socket.
The lead on the compressor originally had a car type plug, so I simply replaced it for £1 with an Optimate Plug to connect to the fly lead on the bike.

yes after a quick cuppa and a re read i thought hmmm maybe i will look like a Think sausage typing that that and was proved right.

I see what you saying these bike are a different breed from what im used to.
