Hey you can't own a location man!!
Hi,

I know I've seen it somewhere, but can I find the dam thread!

Anyway, want to fit a new power outlet into the front so I can feed power into the tank bag. Can anyone recommend where I can get one from and if this can be fitted or do I need to take it into a dealer?

Cheers

power socket

Hi

Bought one from a BM dealer yesterday - including a plug to, well, plug into it it cost me £40.

Fitting instructions are included but in typical BM fashion if you want to follow the english instructions you constantly have to refer back to the german pages as that is where the illustrations are. Installing it is a bit of a pain as you do have to take the tank off - make sure it is nearly empty or it could get really difficult.

The drilling of the hole in the fairing is not that difficult with the supplied pattern - a Dremel will help unless you have a 18.2 mm bit. I combined this job with tidying up the routing of the GPS power and audio cables.

Overall it probably will take about 2 hours depending on care taken and other jobs you try to accomplish while the tank is off. It is not difficult just can get a bit fiddly.

Hope this helps

Walter

I agree with wut Wut said :D I fitted the BMW kit to my GS, took me a couple of hours but it would have been quicker if I had had a proper hole cutter to make the hole for the socket, so try and get one :)

Power socket

Hi boz .
Check the Touratech 05/06 cat . they do a surround for the instruments which seems to follow the ine of the tubular frame and includes a power socket ( no drilling of the fairing ! ) and for under 30 Quid
Hope this helps. Mike.

Didn't buy a kit just the socket and plug from a Massey Dealer in Melton Mowbray. Cost about £12 for the two. Just had the tank off to hard wire my aux lights and it seemed the right time to fit the socket up front. Been wanting to fit it for ages but never got round to it. As Mouse says its a lot easier if you have a Step Cutter but they are not cheap. Take the beak off it takes about 30 seconds and only involves four screws and then just slides forward. Underneath the sides of the beak you will find preformed sites where you mount the socket. Just wired mine back to the main aux under the seat and joined it behind the socket. Trouble is I don't really need the additional socket at the moment but it will come in handy sometime I feel sure.
