power supply for quest

what this about power supply see below

.... either Garmins, or an aftermarket bracket, that comes complete with power supply and amplifier.
The Quest doesn't have its own amp, like the bigger generation Garmins, so all the power and sound amplification is done in the bracket.
This will have a 3.5mm mono socket to allow connection of the headset either via the Autocom or straight into your helmet if you prefer.
DON'T be tempted to try and power the Quest direct as it runs at 5 volts not 12v as with other units!

Personally - I went for the RAM solution. A standard RAM ball mount and the Garmin Quest mount and the Garmin Quest power supply. There are old threads that suggested that the Garmin mount was not as robust as the RAM one which is available at GPSW. http://www.gpsw.co.uk/details/prod2393.html

On my 1200 it is very much more rigid than the instrument binnacle which flaps around on it's rubber mounting thingies.

surley some one has a garmin quest fitted to there bike using garmin kit 010 10610 10. did this connect to bike ignition or battery and supply correct power for garmin quest .

the Ram mount has the invertor in the power unit that fit to it ,so you can just connect it straight to a power source

The Garmin bike specific bracket supplies the Quest with 5 volts after connecting direct to the bikes 12 volt system. It also supplies a speech output connection (via a 3.5 mono inline socket) as the Quest doesn't have an amp built in due to size of the unit.
I suggest you connect the bracket through an ignition switched supply as you'll get oxidisation between the pos. and neg. pins on the bracket if it's powered all the time.

Are you sure you wouldn't be better off getting one from Ram-Man? When you factor in the international shipping costs I doubt there'll be much of a saving, plus when buying stuff from the states it's pot luck whether customs will sting you.

Due to a slight oversight (and overspend) I may have a spare Garmin Quest mount in the garage somewhere, a suitably generous TiTS donation could entice me in there to find it ?

I honestly don't know but will try and post a piccy so you can decide. If you want it, the deal is quite simple, you make a suitable TiTS donation and I'll send you the mount and associated gubbins.

I should point out that this very mount was most generously supplied by our most venerable Ram-Man and did indeed traverse the Sahara attached to a Honda 90, therefore a generous donation would be required to liberate it.

I should also point out that it's feckin cold in my garage
