I recently replaced the end pipe on my GS with a Remus Powercone (long version). Howerever I've noticed that the lower part of the titanium sleeve has gone a coppery colour (similar to the downpipes - also Remus).

I queried this with the importers and they said they has sold loads of Powecones and hadn't heard of this before. Can anybody that has one confirm that they have not experienced the same problem ?

Also anybody bought the short version - would be interested to see any pics as I might try one if I get a replacement.

Personally I would have thought that that was normal to be honest? It is only oxide colours due to the high temperature of the exhaust gases.

However, if you want to clean it then Wonder Wheels is the answer, works a treat, but they will soon discolour again.

It might be perfectly normal, but fundamentally the reason that this is happening is due to heat.

It could be due to a failed lambda probe, which can cause the headers to glow red hot. It might be worth resetting the ignition and seeing if that makes a difference, or to pop over to your dealer and get the system checked out.

Also, the exhaust will run hotter if you've de-catted the bike, so that might also be a reason.

Thanks guys but my issue is that I prevously had a Remus Titanium Revolution on the bike for 20k miles and the sleeve never discoloured. That was also true with the Revolution on my 1150GS that covered over 50k.

I now have had a Powercone on the bike for 1000 miles and this happens. I think it's to do with the shape of the exhaust to be honest. Worth bearing in mind if anyones planning to buy one as it doesn't look great.

Mike, I've had the long titanium powercone on my 2006GS for about 4k miles now (can is run baffle out and have remus headers also). Not noticed any discolouration (but then again, the bike is 'protected' by a healthy layer of dirt :o). It's in the works carpark at the mo... when I get a minute I'll go an check there's no discolouration and let you know.
HTH.
Dave.
PS. The short powercone causes problems with the panniers AFAIK.

OK Mike, just been for a look.
The part of the silencer where the spring clips are (the bit that overlaps the header link pipe) has gone coppery coloured - the same colour as the headers are, but as soon as you get to the part where the silencer starts to go 'cone shaped' it's silvery grey, as it was when I fitted it. Certainly don't think it detracts from the look of it in any way at all.
If that doesn't make sense, let me know and I'll try and get a pic up tonight for you. (Or you can sponsor the site and put a pic of your own up ;))
HTH,
Dave.:thumb2

Thanks Dave. Mine has gone much further than that. Perhaps I have just been unlucky :(
