Praise for garmin

There has to be a cut off point or Garmin will be committing to providing free updates for life.

I think some are being unfair in their criticism. :nono

OK explain this. Two people buy Quests within a couple of days of each other. Both register their units. Neither gets their "free" upgrade from V6. Both send e-mails asking (politely) if there is some delay in getting hold of the discs for V7. One is told, wait, because V8 is due, the other, sorry if you registered before 1st Jan 2006, no upgrade.
One guy gets V8 with unlock code free / gratis / for nowt, and the other has had to BUY the unlock code......

Unfair criticism????, I think not.

No-one is asking for "free upgrades for life", hey we only wish!! and I never suggested this either. BUT, it should be made VERY CLEAR that there is such a thing as a cut-off date when registering, otherwise some people will lose out on what is clearly advertised as a FREE upgrade. So a bit less of the :nono if you don't mind.

Don't register your unit till an upgrade is due - thats what i did, not difficult :nenau

Well I know that now, but I didn't when I bought it. Even so I still would have been entitled to a free upgrade to V7 City Select, which they didn't have anymore of. I then got an e-mail to say do my upgrading through Garmin UK, and there wouldn't be a problem. Erm.... I was happy enough, and still am, not making any real complaint., but you do have to follow the on screen instruction, as asked too by Garmin UK, but I still had too pay $88 :nenau

As stated lifes a bitch, but the extra detail is just what I wanted, but it would appear others are :spitfire a bit :D

Hey soz biccy mick. No offence meant. Not sure if it was made clear that there was such an inconsistency in your case - if it was I am afraid I missed it. You are right it is unacceptable to treat the same set of circumstances differently if that is what you are saying.

I just know that if you apply a cut off there will always be those who just miss it or miss it by a mile. I have to take as I find and so far Garmin have been quite fair with me. I am fortunate that they say I will get the upgrade this year because I registered in Feb. Next year I will have to pay, but I understand that. :nenau

And just in case you think I would say that because I will get a free upgrade, how would you feel if you lost the full pension benefits you had paid into for 27 years by a few months?? Now that is sick making and applies to me so please I know what it is like to be on the wrong side of cut off dates!!!!!! :tears

DVD through today, unlocked FOC, downloaded - sorted.

The man is an asset to Garmin, and he's been mailed to tell him so.

Right now I've calmed down, Spain is MUCH better mapped. Small villages in France that were poor before are now great (well the two I checked were). As already reported, no ful post codes, but still a good upgrade for what I need.

Cheers

Mark
