Pre-Paddys day, galway rideout 10th of March oughterard

a great opportunity to head up to Lough Nafooey and the back of the Reek, or down into Toormakeady. or do a circuit and cut back down the westport louisbourg to leenane road.

Exactly what I was thinking - but with the Sheefry Hills thrown in for good measure :bounce1 :bounce1

I was thinking of staying in the city Saturday night, purely from the point of view of getting a bite to eat & maybe visiting a pub or two :augie but if everyone else is staying in Oughterard that'll do me too ;) So who's staying :nenau

any suggestions as to best way to galway from b'fast.maybe should head to dublin and hook up wi jockser and padge:nenau

all bein well shinobi and me stayin sat night:thumb2

permission from the boss and ive got the time off work:D

lookin forward to it:clap

Kyle, from memory; Armagh - Monaghan - Clones - Cavan - Granard - Ballinalee (not Mostrim) - Longford - Roscommon - Mount Bellew - Galway.
Did it in reverse last year, it beats Dublin IMHO.

Kyle, I'd have to agree with Gerry - stay the fcuk away from Dublin. It's only gonna make your journey longer, slower & more expensive with the tolls :( But you're more than welcome to hook up with us if you decide to come down this way :thumb2

I'd propose two amendments to Gerry's route if you have the time to spare for a slightly more scenic route -
1. From Monaghan head to Cavan via Cootehill.
2. From Granard go Mostrim / Edgeworthstown, Athlone, Ballinasloe, Kilconnell, Athenry, Galway. The Athlone - Ballinasloe bit is dual carriageway but the rest is pleasant enough :D

See ya Saturday week :bounce1

Given that Kyle and Shinobi will most likely be going down early on Saturday morning, they may not have time for the scenic route, so the most direct route is as follows;

Meet up at the Moira roundabout and head up the M1 to Portadown then on to

Armagh..................Monaghan...............Clones..................Cavan..............

Granard..................Edgeworthstown..................Ballymahon................Athlone

At Athlone join the N6 heading west via Ballinasloe and Loughrea to Galway.

Brekkie on the way

Kyle, when you come down into Edgeworthstown from Granard you will come to a T junction at the main street.

You will be turning right, driving down the main street, over a brow then down a wee hill before taking left for Ballymahon.

Just at the top of the brow there is a restaurant on your right hand side which does a grand brekkie at handy enough money.

THANKS FOR THAT LADS.

aidan is right we will be goin the most direct route we can.
more scenic route home on sunday perhaps:thumb2

No problem will do that. As to those enquiring about knobblies earlier, it is absolutely pissing on us here.

Thanks on that
The weekend promises no better weather
It's an outboard motor that's needed
Knobblies are not enough
No matter it'll be a craic

For anyone from the Dublin area who wants to join us - Padge, Willsuds & myself are meeting at the Kildare exit, M7 at 08.00 on Saturday. We'll be heading crosscountry to Galway with a short brekkie / tea stop on the way :bounce1
