Just picked up the ADV from Prestige.......the ring gear and starter thrust widget had gone, and as I was near the 18k service, I had that done at the same time.

They took it apart on Friday to confirm the problem, called me as soon as they knew, ordered the bits, recieved and fitted them today and called me at 4.30 to arrange pick up......so over I rode on the free loaner R850R (grrrrr....ah well  ) and was shown the parts that had been replaced...several teeth completely missing from the ring gear, and the splines on the armature where shagged.

They'd also replaced the left hand engine bar as it was cracked at the engine joint like the right hand one thatwas replaced 8k miles ago.......I didn't know about this one though.

They also (big grin) put a brand new clutch friction plate in, as mine was going to be needing replacement soon.

FOR NO CHARGE!

Total bill £164.42........

So I guess you could call me a happy bunny.......particularly when I got back on her and rode off, having spent a few hours on the DRZ bedding in the new brakes on some local-ish byways, and then hooning up to Bexleyheath on that silly toy 850R.

Haven't been able to fault Prestige yet......they've had their money off me over the years with two bikes, full Streetguard suit etc etc, but I don't mind paying sensible money for the sort of service I get from them.:thumb

Erm...I'll pm you about that Iain.......;)

And yes, what they should be doing on most of it certainly, but the bit that prompted me to actually post it rather than just accept proper service was the free replacement of the clutch plate......Dunno what it would have cost to replace it when it actually went but I understand it's a fairly major job to do.

ill be sure to do a write up on how they perform on my 04 adv - i shortened the wheelbase using a car. lets see how they do on it...

I was under the Impression that a dealer replaced clutch could be in the region of 800 quid,

nice brucie bonus Bill:D

Sheesh that much???!!!

Cheers Matt...that's made me smile even more....

The mechanic who did it told me (in a suddenly hushed voice) that they'd done it 'cos as it was all apart and he'd seen it was getting towards needing it, it would have been 'bloody minded' not to just do it...I spose once they'd had to open her all up to get to the ring gear it didn't actually cost them much more, but they would have probably got the job when it would have needed it eventually.

I'm really impressed they did it F.O.C anyway.

Big :thumb to Prestige

And Keith the spanner's going to get a bottle o'scotch for christmas......what goes around comes around :)

You did well there Fanum, I was in Prestige at around 11 this morning getting my vibrating screen looked at - sorted in 5 mins and then spent another half an hour looking at the new hugger and being tempted to buy the sat-nav unit....

Have I just read right...£800 to change a clutch?? And they fail around 18k miles?

Yup on both - if you're 'unlucky'. My clutch splines went in April, at less than 12,000. Had to fight WMB UK, but was supported by Tim at Cooper Reading and it was sorted to my satisfaction.

Cheers,

Neil.

On looking at the Wunderlich hugger it would appear that it is in fact made by 'Ilmberger'' (Not sure about the name).

I know I read in a post (can't find it) that they had been withdrawn too.

Can anyone throw any light on this.

No, they don't normally fail at this age.....there was a specific reason for it.

Strange...Prestige had just got them in....the box was opened on my request...
