Anyone got any idea if it still exist? Been looking around a bit on the net but could not find anything recent. Looking for some links and info as I fancy another "cold" meet.
Yes I know we got a search function but as I am posting from my phone I somehow can't access that.
Cheers Pete

Yup, the loonies still gather in the snow. End of february, called "primustreffet". Don´t think there is a web site or anything, just google it as we get closer.

Looks like its been held here since 1972, every last weekend in Feb.

Bjoneroa, about 50 miles South of Lillehammer, about 60 miles north of Oslo

Get planning:D

Primustreff.

Primustreffet is here! http://www.vestland-kanoutleie.no/index.php?pageID=4&page=kart_og_veibeskrivelse

That is not the website for the meeting, it is for someone who let you rent boats, kano. (No, not in February! )

Next Primustreff are going to be from Friday 22/02 to Sunday 24/02 2013.
As it is not really a organized meeting you can come and leave, as you like!

If a nice couple, who live in that area, lend us a toilet, they want us to pay some for that.
And if you want to buy some wood, you need money for that too. I guess NOK 100,- is enough.
The rest is free, and you must bring ALL you need for some days&nights in the forest.

Your next question maybe how cold is it?
Hmm... From +5c (and wet snow or no snow) to -25c, and all the snow you want/need! Most likely -10c daytime, and colder at night, and not windy.

Wool next to your skin, all over - you need that! And mittens and hat.

Primustreff; maps.

East route from Oslo to Bjoneroa: https://maps.google.no/maps?saddr=U...5BRjGaHiPTX2CSfg&oq=oslo&t=h&mra=ls&z=9&via=1

West route from Oslo to Bjoneroa: https://maps.google.no/maps?saddr=U...8GfyYW5BRjGaHiPTX2CSfg&oq=oslo&t=h&mra=ls&z=9

The tarmac (and the Google-man) ends here - follow the sign 'Vestland Kanoutleie'. https://maps.google.no/maps?saddr=U...oid=f9DW98bbt8Eo2qPJmqARhA&cbp=12,229.76,,0,0 Do NOT turn left here! Just after passing a small, red boathouse (it look new) on your left hand, the road split: Stop! If you have not seen any motorbikes, you are too early or too late! :)
(That white circle is where the tarmac stop. But you won't see that if we get snow.)

One more map: http://kart.gulesider.no/m/9HZOX

Oh, and one more thing:
It get pitch dark early in the evening!

Excellent information as ever Liv:thumb

I can never make it to the Primustreffet due to farm commitments so this year i'm going to camp on the farm in my Tentipi whatever the conditions and i'm getting an Origo Heatpal tent heater so i'll be all warm and toasty!

Bring on the Pylsur..........!

Pete, get a great tour and start you cold sessions in Finland. "Talviralli"- winter-rallye is every second weekend on feb. Meeting place changes every year. So if you a interesting, I can give you info, when I know where it is.

Ok so this is on. Unfortunately not in 2013 but in 2014. Can't do '13 as I am already going to Wales that weekend for a get together but it's definitely on for '14.
So far it's 3 of us going. It also gives me a year to get the right gear together. I will keep you guys updated as of our travel arrangements and gear purchases etc.
Pete

Oh Liv could I ask another favour please. Could you maybe post up some links for outdoor stores/Winter riding gear outlets. I still need some decent gear for proper cold temperatures
Cheers Pete

If your brother lives in Northern Germany, I would suggest you look at Globetrotter Outdoor Centre in Barmbek, Hamburg:

http://www.globetrotter.de/

They have excellent quality stuff, plus the cheaper stuff like Jack Wolfskin if you really must have the wolf's paw badge.

They even have an ice room where you can sit down and test your cold weather gear, complete with an Infra Red Camera, which shows where you are loosing heat. If you are that way inclined, you can also stand under a water deluge to test out your waterproof gear (that's not in the ice room though :D), etc.

There are also a shed load of Motor Cycle Clothing and Accessory shops in Hamburg including Profile, Helmet Studio, Hein Gericher, Polo, Louis, Bikers Fashion Arena, etc.

I know it is sometimes a good idea to look at what the locals are wearing, but Globetrotter cater for expeditions anywhere in the world. Certainly, Germany will be a lot cheaper than buying in Norway.

It does get down to around -15 Deg C in Hamburg occasionally, but German bikers tend to sensibly put their bikes away in the winter.

Most of us are not wearing special clothes made for riding in -15c.

I'm wearing my BMW Street Guard, but any good quality suit is ok. But it must be too big for you in a hot summer day, so you can wear 2-3 layers of thin wool underwear too. Wool on your skin, all your skin, from toes to ears, and on your head too if it is really cold.

And I wear two wind stopper neck.

The problem is the feet.
I'm riding a sidecar so I feel it is OK to wear normal boots, boots not made for riding a mototbike, with protections.
My favorite is Muckboots. Thay are waterproof too. And yes, you never know if you need that!

If I was riding a solo bike I would not know what boots to wear.
But again; too big for you in the summer, and wool (only wool!) socks. Not too many socks; you need room for moving your toes, that help too.

And we have Gerbing electric clotes.
I have socks, and they help a lot!
And I have gloves too. But muffs (is that what you call the 'bag' on you handle bars?) and electric heated handle bars, together, help much too.

Some of us need all this, and more. Some need less.
Sometimes it is only -5c, and that is not cold.
But I remember when I rode to Lom in 2009: It was below -25c for many hours, and that was cold. But I managed because I was wearing my homemade fur coat. That helped a lot - that saved me!
If you struggle to put enough wool under your riding suit, wearing a sheepskin coat help.
If you are moving much (= falling off the bike, or playing) you won't feel so cold, and then you might not need it. But in -25c I guess we all would love to wear something extra, like a coat.

I'm sorry my english is so bad.

Please ask more, if you want to know more! Please do! :)

Do you still want me to find links for clothes?

:) Liv.

Thanks Liv :thumb
Yes if you don't mind I still would like the links
Yes we will be coming over on oh GSA's. Do you know of any decent youth hostels or B&B.s.?
My brother lives in Plon, northern Germany. So the idea is to go from there to Oslo, stay in a youth hostel and than do the last 100 miles or so on the Thursday or Friday
