The replacement headlight bulb that I fitted at the weekend need a bit of encouragement to seat properly. The reflector assembly moved forward, off the beam adjustment mechanism (I think). It now moves freely, pivoting on it's upper hinge and is pointing far too high. I will have a go this weekend to pull the reflector back in order to reattach to beam height adjuster, but it didn't want to go back on easily when I gave it a quick go yesterday. Fortunately the beam is now so high it is'nt annoying anbody.

Anybody else had this happen? Any tips on getting the reflector back into it's original position?

Cheers

yep the lens has popped off the adjuster ball..... unfortunatly there isnt a really simple way of putting it back on... i believe you need to take the bulbs out, get your finger inside the bulb hole and with the other finger locate the ball back into its correct position then at the same time give the reflector a good hard pull and that should reseat it.... its a right faff about and may well be easier to remove the whole unit from the bike.

Take the headlight off to do it

Its only two bolts and undo 2 connector blocks to remove

This is probably why BMW put the headlight ass in with just 2 bolts, do a search as it's sucha common fault it ain't funny:(, some have resorted to drilling the housing to push the ball back ito position, I used lockwire and pulled like a b*stard, it's a mystery why they pop off so easy but are a real sh*t to get back on. Don't resort to buying a new headlight as it is fixable;)

Thanks :thumb2, you have confirmed my suspicion. All I need now is three hands with six 20cm fingers double jointed in five places along their length and it should be an easy job.

I will remove the headlight to do this as clocks/screen etc hamper access.

I am in the same situation, happened yesterday in a petrol station when I changed the Low Beam globe.

I will try to dismantle in a couple of days.
