Problem Inflating Tyre

So out for a wee jolly yesterday and stopped at the petrol station to check the air in the rear tyre.

When I put the airline to the valve all it would do was let air out not put it in. Eventually after 15 minutes and a nearly flat tyre I got it back to close to the recommended PSI.

Any idea why this would happen? It was like the airline wouldn't connect properly with the valve. Given it inflated the front one no problem - is it likely a problem with the valve at the rear?

All or any help appreciated.

Lovely flap for these on the GSA tank. That's where I keep them.

Guys thanks for the help - although I think perhaps I should have been clearer.

I have a 1200 GS WC with alloy wheels the valve is not on the rim but on the 'spoke' [does that make sense?]. I'm guessing that therefore these valves probably won't help?

Or am I just missing the point?

You screw it onto the valve top, this gives better/easier access for the airline.

An excellent addition to any toolkit.

Sounds more like the adapter on the end of the airline is fooked, they generally are :-|

Try a different garrage

This is my solution. Quicker than the others and works a treat.

That may very well be true, but it did inflate the front one ok.

So other causes are at least a valid shot at the solution.

The issue is a quick and clean removal of the adapter in a restricted space before all the air hisses out again. The right angle on above for me is a case in point. Remove the airline and then screw the adapter off and by the time I'd screwed it off the pressure had gone down. Have had the most success with the long flexible right angle connector. 1 PSI over recommended release the lever and bingo.

I had the exact same problem with GS LC. Tesco forecourt air hose. Car before and after me had no problem!!! I managed in my annoyance to deflate both tyres in my attempt to get the bloody tyres inflated. Pushed the fully loaded GS 100 metres to the main store entrance and kind manager gave me a free foot pump. That worked fine. No idea why the air machine hose didn't like the GS.
No probs with track pumps or other foot pumps. Never happened to me before in decades.
