I bought some Touratech handguard extensions from Nippy Normans and fitted them today. As I had to mark and drill the OEM handguards I decided to take them off and do a proper job instead of drilling in situ. I started to unscrew the bolt in the end of the handlebar, it came out about quarter of an inch or more and then went really tight, I didn't like the feel of it so I decided to screw it back in and it went about half a turn and went totally solid. I just cannot move the damn thing at all and it is stuck about quarter of an inch unscrewed. To make matters a little worse in my attempts to move it the hex bolt slipped and has slightly rounded off the edges.

Anyone else had this problem? Any idea what is happening here and how can I resolve it.

They're tight little buggers, and they're held in with loctite. I just persisted and got them out in the end.

Maybe some heat application might help?

Yup had the same problem. I initially thought it must be rusted in but it turned out to be excessive thread lock compound.

The bolt was eventually removed by using mole grips and with liberal applications of WD40. By gently turning the bolt backwards and forwards a bit at a time it eventually came out.

The new bolt was about a fiver. Thread lock wasnt used and it's still there after 20,000 miles.
