My right hand heated grip has stopped working. I have removed the rubber grip and with the grip on full heat I am getting a constant reading of 13.5v across the soldered connections to the element. This would indicate that the element does not have a break in it otherwise there would be no reading.

Might this be a software or Canbus problem? If so is it possible to perform some sort of reset? :nenau

Any ideas please?

I'm not sure your conclusion is right. If the element is being fed 12v, and the other end is earthed, you will get a 12v (or 13.5) reading across the terminals whether the element is good or bad. What you won't have is any current flow.

Disconnect the wires and do a continuity check. It should be very low - a few ohms I suspect, but anything other than open should be a good sign.

Alternatively, just disconnect the low side / negative lead and then check the voltage from that to the battery negative with the heater turned on. If the element is good you'll see battery voltage, if there's a break you'll get nothing.

BMW diags confirm the grip has failed so I have ordered a second hand one from Motoworks - half the price of a new one.

both grips on mine don't seem to get as warm as they did when i first got the bike, could this be a sign that they are about to fail ?

No idea Carl but it might be worth taking it to a BM dealer to plug into the diags machine in case it is a software/firmware or canbus problem.

CrazyCaz's left hand one broke, just didn't heat up. New grip sorted it.

If there's some heat in them, they're not broken. A lot of things affect the heat level, such as the position of the hand guards. Try checking such things first. :thumb2

Mine where like that it was the switch on mine,
It was only working on the first setting worth checking it out

An old thread I know but mine have stopped working on 08 f800, after I replaced the rubber grips. I was so careful removing the old grips and am wondering how to check if I have broken/slitted a wire. I have a multimeter but have no idea where to point it! Lol
