SWMBO came home and said. something is wrong with my bike.. well yes the LAMP signal was on, two spare bulbs later the buggers are still blowing, fuses look fine, got me a bit perplexed,

Any suggestions?

She has some stuff independently fused on the bike, so nothing has blown or causing issues. Just main beam... :blast shit day at work sorry

rechecked all lines, fused accessories, checked voltages out of the lamp socket, all seemed fine, looked at the last two bulbs which flashed and then died, and found them to be OK.

Reseated the bulbs, and ignition on, still bulb/lamp alert.

Started engine, and light came on, lamp warning gone.

Rechecked, powered off, and ignition, no more lamp warning.

Is this typical for canbus, it requires a full power reset or charge to reassess the bus?

Headlight only comes on when engine running... the lamp check needs to power the lamp to check it is working OK, hence lamp fault stays on until headlight actually illuminates.

Yes, you need to run the engine to clear the lamp alarm and bring the headlight back on.
I scratched my head for a while over this when I changed the lamp on my R1200GSA last week.

What put me off was when I turned the ignition on the bulbs flashed (new ones) then went out. Hence I thought they had blown.

Suffice to say it works a bit different on the car with similar tech.

as the bikes are being exported in 18 months to a country that doesn't like after market hids.. sadly no.
