I did hard one few times. I even deleted maps by hand. As a result I lost my Speed cameras database! It doesn't come with garmin express, but it was preloaded with Nav V when I got it.

I didn't realise the failure to import 3d or photo realistic and I wish that I knew which files contained those. My Map info now showing:
CN Europe NTU 2-15.10:
(tick) Tirane,Shqiperia,Graz,Osterreich,Sankt Polten (tick)
(tick) Europe DEM
(tick) CN Europe NTU 2015.10 3D
Garmin Express also removed the old maps. Total Time approx 1.5hrs
So I called Garmin UK CS today as their response was "robot" like in email ( do this and you will be fine...but it wasn't fine as I done it couple of times already) and when I explained the problem ( supporting pictures provided) I got response that because new maps are more detailed, the navigation unit needs to work harder so that's why it has problem with rendering maps at higher scales (20 - 50 mls). I replied to her that it is nonsense, that I didn't pay 600+ quid for device which has problems with rendering maps and that beside this map overlay problem I also experienced couple of accidental shutdowns ( saw error files in diagnostics folder ) and problem with aquiring GPS fix occasionally which can only be obtained by either disabling unit completely or going to GPS simulator and turning it on and off ( windows style support procedure! ).
So the Nav V is with parcel force and it should be in Southampton tomorrow afternoon...if they don't lose it....fingers crossed!
I've just got brand new unit from Garmin. Thank you after all this wait! I'm in process of putting 2015.10 maps ( it came with 2014.10 ) and hopefully it won't break again...touch wood.
just to refresh this old topic...my replaced NAV V developed same problem! Talking to Garmin RMA team already...grrr. Tried master reset before and after deleting all map files from .System folder on nav unit - no luck.
Garmin gave up and said that they only provide warranty for navigator V for 1 year. I took it to my local dealer and got it replaced without fuss. Now I have brand new unit but only with reminder of warranty from original purchase in January 2014. I checked developer info menu on my new unit and it seems that PCB has revision 6 compared to 5 on previous one. Although it seems like purely software issue, it might be related to some hardware design. I upgraded new satnav to latest firmware and 2016.30 maps and is working spot on. when collecting new device yesterday we ran test side by side with new and old one. It was very obvious that old one was not only showing overlay artifacts from 20 mls scale (and higher) , but it was very slow drawing map segments when you moved map around. It was hardly showing any major city names in Europe, compared to new device.
Garmin suggested that they can replace my out of warranty device (luckily I had still 3 weeks left on BMW warranty!) for 111£, so I could still get good unit without splashing for new one for 600 quid. It seems that it is not worth it to buy Navigator v online, as you would end up with only Garmin 1 year warranty.
