Sorry Steve. It was meant to be a bit of banter. Seeing it today it looks terrible and wasn't meant how it reads at all.

had this through from Langcourts from an enquiry I made before Christmas. The repair cost is applied for removing the studs in the bmw barrels and fitting a timesert after replacing.

Hi Rob,

Update

Barrels just been delivered:bow, better than described, stainless pushrod tubes just been delivered as well, all I need now is the gasket set I've ordered from motorworks.

Well I assembled the top end using Robs barrels and pistons, reground all the valves fitted the new SS pushrod tubes, compression now 130 psi on both cylinders ,fitted my new Mikuni carbs, and finally after 3 years of building she starts and runs, although it is a little loud without silencers fitted.

I finally got round to doing a bit more work to my bike today,I'm after advice on settings for my Mikunis, they are VM32's , standard R80 engine, exhaust has no collector box just a y piece. At the moment I have no filters fitted at the moment but I'm going to fit K&N pods, idle screws are set at 1 1/2 turns out at the moment, but I'm not convinced that's right.

Almost finished,I reckon a weekends work and its MOT time,I'm stuck at the moment on a way of mounting the seat,I'm using a subframe I built myself so none of the BMW seat mounts line up,I've got one or two ideas so I'm going to have a go this weekend.

Hey.

Looking good.

Don't forget to fit the missing 2 rear wheel studs though :augie

Lost spark

I went to wire up my LED spotlights on the bike today, and managed to momentarily touch the new live feed from the battery on to the rocker cover .I tried to start the bike later and find now that I don't have any spark:confused:.Is it possible that I have fried my Diode board.I have checked my fuses etc, everything else works as it should, apart from no spark.:nenau

More likely the ignition amplifier (whatever it's called)

Oops
I think I was having a bit of a blonde moment this morning, been out on my Harley most of today ,so thought I'd have another look at the lack of spark,I thought let's try the obvious first "plugs".put in a couple of plugs from the Guzzi, half a turn on the starter and she starts :blast now all I need is to get my head around setting the Mikunis.

Well,my bike now has a name, plenty of GS's out there but maybe not so many GSS's

There is a thread over on ADV riders on Mikuni set up, Old school, Airheads. There has been a post in the last couple of days so shouldnt be hard to find.

There are plenty of different settings, but if you list them all out you will start to see a pattern forming.

I have the settings from the Oz tuner, Paul Rooney, which are completely different to most, but he has settings for jets that are not on my carbs and changing everything on a Mikuni is not a cheap exercise so I havent used them.

99% finished

I couldn't resist wheeling the bike onto the lawn for a few pictures, only thing left to do now is make a rear brake pedal, tidy up the fuel hoses ,wire up the led spotlights and it's time for an Mot.Its been a long haul but I think it's worth it,considering the state it was in when I bought it.next problem is what do I insure it as,it's not a GS and it's not an RT anymore.

Next project

And so on to my next project.I bought a 1983 R100rt ex police bike earlier this year and just started the long process (for me) of building a special. It has the desirable spoked alloy rims and twin Brembo front calipers, and the fuel tank with the hinged lid.I found a bike on some random forum that caught my eye which I am going to loosely base my bike on.
