Project Money Pit !

Sell !

Anyone who has been in my garage knows I have a problem with selling - ask Bubb.

I have a bit of a parts and projects hoarding problem.

I know you’re right though.

Yep….. more than a few airheads in that garage.

A quick update on project ‘money pit’

I’ve been having a tidy of my spares stash and I had inherited 2 G/S subframes that had been chopped up and hacked about.

Rather than bin them I decided to try and make one good one and adapt to fit a conventional monolever frame (not a G/S monolever frame)

Ended up with this..

I’ve cleaned up the frame and wiring harness and started to refit stuff to see what I have

Also had a little go on the bevel with a wire brush

I’ve still got a complete road going monolever subframe / bodywork etc. No modifications that can’t be undone.

May also have located a front wheel.

If I keep this - and the jury is still out - I’m thinking a super motard vibe

It’s at a tipping point where I either sell as a rolling project or build it

ST front wheel and forks here if you need them……
Would be good for them to be used after gathering dust in my garage.

Call if you want them

Project money pit has an engine..

This is what you get for £100.

Needs a bit of work
At least it won’t corrode with that generous helping of crud all over it 🤣🤣🤣

Love to know how many miles are on that motor. If only it could speak, it’d have some stories to tell for sure!

Always happy to be corrected but that Motor looks like a 65/45

Good spot. It’s an R65 bottom end from an 86 monolever.

Got my son roped into this one now and he’s only got an A2 licence at the moment so it should be good for him.

The bottom end has done an uncorroborated 57,000 miles allegedly.

The crank and cam look nice with an oily sheen and it turns over quietly and smoothly.

The trouble is there’s more oil on the outside than the inside 🤣

Got the engine covers, pushrods and carbs. No heads or valve gear though.

If you look at the top of the motor a 80/100 will have two housings on a post 80
An early one pre 80 would have the single breather like yours but would have a duplex timing chain and points type cam.
The cam followers on a 80/100 have a “ turret” on top
And 65/45 Conrods are short and stubby.
Here’s a 100 conrod
Edit you posted at same time as I was typing

Bit more cleaning of the outside of the crankcase today..

I can work on it now without getting my hands, bench and tools filthy.

I think it’s now clean enough on the outside, that I can strip it and have a go at cleaning the inside.

Found the correct dipstick and a timing hole bung in my parts stash - it all helps.

That’s the first pass on one side only just to see what it’s like underneath all that crud.

Engine Built Week 27 of 1986 Engine 77 in series if I remember how to read that ID tag

Any number up by the dipstick ?? I suspect not but ........

That was my interpretation too, but thanks for confirming.

That makes it stamped sometime between June 30th - July 6th 1986.

The 5th / 6th July were a Saturday / Sunday. Not sure if the factory runs / ran 24/7 or if that narrows down the date even further ?

It’s No 77 so early in the week I’d guess.

No numbers above the oil filler hole.

Not there is any doubt but the end of the cam is stamped 248 / 308 so deffo a 450 or 650 type 248 crankcase.

The frame is an 87 ‘F’ plate (from memory) so we’re in the ball park.

That’s come up nice! Like the engine stand too👍

That would be fantastic if you do
I’ve had a looksee at the parts I have and tbh they are not that good,
Threads on the heads are poor, seats need recutting etc
Barrels are reasonably ok but would need blasting and new pushrod tubes,
I’ve also got valve gear and pushrods which are just about serviceable .
Flywheel and clutch covers .
You can have it all if you collect.
Pretty much the full engine less crank/rods and crankcase which I’d sell separately.
All that said,I’d try and find a decent 80 motor as parts will be a lot more readily available
