Hi all

I want to put more capable, off road tyres on my X Country.
when I talk to local dealers about me wanting a 70% on road tyre all they offer me is an Anakee 2 or Torrance which it currentley has on it.

I am aware of the many different types avalible but which ones fit the X Co?

Where do you buy these tyres from?

I think the size of tyres fitted to a X Co may limit choice so do you all change the rear to a 140/80/17 instead of a 130?

Try Metz Sahara 3 or a Heidenau

Good old TKC80's

Pirelli MT21 are more Enduro, but fine on the road

Heidenau K60's come in a wide variety of sizes, try "Pneus Online"

Just completed an 8,000+ mile trip on one set including perhaps 1,000 miles of dirt and gravel roads and they aren't dead yet.

Standard tyre sizes are 100/90/19/57s front and 130/80/17/65s rear.
I now know I can go to a 140 on the rear but what tyres will fit my X Country?

I think TKC 80's and Karoo 2's fit but not sure of anything else.

I will only be off road for 30% of it's time.

Ridden on Battlewings, Anakee's and Tourances but want something that will perform better off road.

Used them on a Transalp and found them OK. I would use them again and importantly are the midway from say a Tourance and TKC80's

Tourances and lush grass do not mix! I have sore ribs to prove it. Am about to fit TKC80s which are one of the few road legal tyres in the right sizes. Recommended by several Chums. Will see if Ribs approve.

I've been happy with mine on my X Chal, I have considered MT21's but they didn't last that long on my TTR600 so I'd imagine they'd wear pretty quick on a X Chal / Country

+1 on that.

Did a 4000 mile trip from The Netherlands around the Pyrenees and back last September, including offroad in the Pyrenees and hardly notice any wear. They give great confidence on the road and are fine on gravel tracks. However, if you are riding on mud or soft sand, they will not be as good as a more offroad slanted tyre.

Norton, do yourself a favour and go out in the wet as soon as you get a chance to.
Find a bit of banding and then a manhole cover, sorry, personofnondeterminatesex cover, and ride gently over them.

Then do it again, with a little power, then a little more.



TKC's are fantastic tyres....I've had them on my GSA for years now, all year around, but they ARE twitchy, particularly on banding and metal covers..........twitchy in a safe sort of way, but if you know how it's going to feel in advance, it could save your buttocks taking a bite out of your seat when you experience it without prior knowledge the first time

TKC80's fine

Just done a 3 day camping / trail tour with a mate of mine. I was on a Challenge and he on a Country. Both with TKCs in our respective sizes, both bikes fully loaded.

Did some of the mid-level trails in North, West & Mid Wales. No major issues tyre wise; excellent on the harder type stuff (eg Strada Florida, Sarn Helen etc) but slippier as you'd expect on wet mud etc.

I like these as an all-rounder, plus when you get back on the tarmac, they give good grip to press on a little
