This was all working fine a few months ago, but has apparently been subject to some sort of bit-decay.

Started up Basecamp and only the low res Global Map available. I can see various other maps when I plug my Zumo in.

Do I really have to go through all the arse-ache of reinstalling the maps again?

you have my sympathy.

i started up my zumo today to get a notification that my mapping was over a year old. i simply don't have it in me to spend hours updating and wrestling with garmin's woefully crappy software.

The last time I did my Nav IV with Garmin Express, I was pleasantly surprised how quick and painless it was in comparison with previous occasions.

i'm using it tomorrow, so look forward to a pleasant update experience next perhaps :)

My top tip for when you do the updates is to do the computer and the Nav unit seperately

Cookie, Looking forwards to your next post . Got a 590 and first time with basecamp and its a total mystery ,lol..
With baited breath i'm waiting ,lol

Have to say the latest garmin map update onto both my 660 and Mac went fairly smoothly using express, even with my sub 2mb pathetic broadband speed.

Did mine too on Monday after 3 years absence due to 'lost UK maps' (operator error)

Very pleased and couldn't believe how easy is seems to have become.

Got my 660 back. YES!!!!!!!!!!

Mine was a pain at first, once i had updated Garmin express and remembered to update both Zumo 660 and computer all went smoothly.
Also new maps show up in Mapsource and still work and transfer to unit, for anyone ticked off with basecamp:thumby:

The maps are all still installed (3.6Gb in User/stolzy/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Maps), but Basecamp can't see them.
Downloading them all again (4hr at 10Mb) in the hope that when the same files are installed in the same place that BC will see them.

Pathetic.

Perhaps stating the obvious, and I do apologise if you take offence, but have you checked that the right maps have been 'Ticked'/selected in the 'Maps' drop-down menu in Basecamp?

Because occasionally, I have also found only the base mapping available and then, when I checked, found that the latest maps had become unselected for some unknown reason

That's not it.

In fact, downloading the maps again has solved the problem. Hope I don't need to jump through all those hoops again :blast
Managed to identify a new bunch of stupidities in Garmin software in the process. Poiinted these out to the Garmin tech i had on the phone for more than an hour, but he couldn't have been less interested.

His comment "Some of our software seems to run OK for most people" summed up their attitude for me.
