I had a puncutre earlier this week. I was 40-odd miles from home, so called those nice peopel at BMW Assist and arranged a truck to get me home.

While waiting.... and waiting... and more to pass the time than anything else, I tried my puncture kit. It looked a bit messy but made driving onto the truck OK. When I was delivered home (eventually, but that's another story) I pumped the tyre up to its correct pressure. It is still at the same pressure three days later, although I haven't ridden on it.

Two questions: firstly, how far have people ridden with a roadside-repaired tyre? Secondly, all this involved rearranging my toolkit. In the back of my mind, I thought there was a pair of pliers in there originally. They're gone now. Was I imagining it, or have I lost them?

Thanks,

Robin.

I know people who've ridden out the life of the tyre, as much as another 5000 miles.

No pliers in the 1150 toolkit. You must be thinking of the crappy monkey-metal ones you get in Japanese kits....

as Steve says, if it stays up leave it. I've used the puncture kit a couple of times over the years and always left the plug in till the tyre wore out .

Sadly, I got a puncture on day 1 of the Boxercup and replaced the tyre the next day £130
THe same thing happened on day 2 when I had the 1100RT, I rode that for about 500 miles with no problems.

The only thing I worry about is doing excess speed with the repaired tyre bearing in mind clumsy ken (me) did the repair and although a new tyre can be expensive its not as expensive as having a problem and damaging the bike and meself after a spill!!!

had a rear puncture on the company pan couple of yrs ago .
bike was fitted with 020's and loads of tread left
i used the tip top kit and did another 1800 miles before replacing
and never worried about speed ..etc
bloody good kit the repair stuff is.

and the reliability of the repair really depends on where the puncture is ..
