Punctures in tubed tyres

It's hard to argue with those images.

Of course there is a world of difference between road riding and Adventure riding and I was seeing things from the road riding point of view.

Tubes are part of your armoury and I apologise for being narrow minded on this subject

My Dad worked a a tyre fitter for London buses for most of his working life, tubed tyres, split rims, tyres retreaded using a hot iron (sometimes by me) 110 Psi running pressures - much higher to pop the bead on and no mechanical assistance, just 6ft long tyre levers.

It's in me genes :-)

It's just my opinion but I personally would never run tubed tyres on any vehicle that I own. I have suffered two rear wheel blow outs on bikes and I never want to repeat that experience.

I had one on my 650 single at 66 32 N in Norway last week and it was rather more interesting than when I've had punctures on my 1100. I thought I was going to make a close inspection of the roadside undergrowth  Got the wheel off and repair gear out to mend the puncture (nail plus some collateral tube damage) only to find the glue seemed to have gone off and the electric pump wasn't up to the job. Had to resort to the RAC which was rather humiliating :(

Must prepare better next time and take spare tubes (which were in the garage at home) rather than food! I've taken the tubes on previous trips where typically I didn't need them.
