I've a lovely set of SW Motech Hawk fog-lights that I'd really like to put a set of LED bulbs into... Anyone ever tried it and if so what bulbs did you put in? I bought a set of cheap LED bulbs on ebay and tried them out and they worked fine but they were very dim.

Any recommendations welcome

Do they have a wattage stamped on them? Are they 12 volts? We can presume they are the correct fitting and are fitted correctly with good connections. Is it possible to get the same bulb in a higher wattage? That should do it. JJH

Yeah I was thinking the same JJH - Yes they were 12v - there's no wattage on them. I'm just not sure what to get if I'm honest as a lot of the ebay stuff isn't great.

A crude way to measure watts-I have done this myself-power item with a good battery charger look at what the amperage is multiply by 12 and that's the wattage. Now if the bulb is not sitting good in the reflector no amount of power will give you a good light with a nice spread. JJH

NO, not just by changing the bulb, the light will be rubbish in comparison to what was in there, in order to get good light out you need to change the bulb holder as well as the good ones generate quite a lot of heat and need a heat sink.
