QPAC issue?

Small issue with the QPAC.

I bought the hard wired version and after putting it all together and deciding how to route the cable I realised that the whole cradle would have to remain on the bike as the regulator is effectively part of the mount.

As it's only a butterfly type fixing which holds the cradle to the bars I wasn't too keen on leaving it there for some toerag to undo and pull off even if it's no use to them.

In the end I bought a small plug and socket from Maplins and put it inline about a foot from the regulator. Dunno if it works yet as I ran out of time to test it. I now have to find some way of fixing the socket to the bars so I can just unplug the leads and take the cradle off the bike.

Anybody else found a way around this?

I believe SUPER-RAM has already made noises about this very issue and there are noises about the MKIII having the very thing you have fitted yourself...

Its somewhere on here under RAM-MAN's name.

Steve aka RAM-Man has meantioned this fix before;

Change the butterfly bolt fixing for a normal bolt type headed one. Kinda permanent and they'll need a screw driver the take it off.

Still don't like the idea of a bloody great cradle sitting there all the time. I hope my fix works!

The RAM arm can be made 'tamperproof' which I and Migsel have shown in the Forum.

I stress its 'tamperproof' and not muttering of anti-theft or security, the mod requires a 'dome nut' and a 'socket button screw' which you can get from any local harware store.

I leave my Garmin powered cradle on Ram mount attached to my bike. It then makes a great crash helmet stand when I place the helmet over the top of it and secure that using a small lockable bowden cable through the chin bar and around the handlebar. That keeps my helmet securely locked to the bike without risk of being knocked/falling off, covers the cradle to prevent theft and keeps the rain off the contacts.
