Have just fitted some 10w spots powered from the aux socket, I expected them to switch off about 30 seconds after turning ignition off but they appear to stay on. Does the aux socket keep live if it is drawing current when ignition is switched off?
If so I guess I will have to power them from the GPS socket. I do have a switch for the spots but with my memory I will often forget to switch them off. The spots are just to aid conspicuity as the DRL LED seems pretty feeble to me.

At 10w are these led? Of so it will be the electronics driving the LED's that is messing with the system. They can put a back feed into the system which makes it think there is a charger plugged in.

GPS socket will do the same thing. Supply the spots from the battery via a relay which is switched from the aux circuit.

Yes, Cree 10Watt LED, I didn't realise they could put a back feed which would then keep the circuit open, guess I'll have to go the relay route. Any ideas where to buy a suitable relay, this jobs getting slightly more complicated.
