Not being one to need the latest gadgets I was thinking of getting a s/h Quest or 2610 what advantages dissadvantages do they have over each other.

I have a Streetpilot III at the moment, which works but can be painfully slow working out routes. I also bought a cheap Navman S30 for car use but its only got UK mapping. Navman only supply Europe mapping on discs that work on Vista, dont have Vista :(

I have made up a waterproof box mounted on a RAM mount for the Navman but the screens next to useless in daylight.

Quest vs 2610

I have had both units. I started with the quest a great compact unit which will do the job but has its limitations. on the plus side it's easy to use, has a 20 hour battery, and after use just pop in in your pocket, i travelled to France and it worked well. The negatives are really the screen size is small, it's capacity is less than the 26-- series and the bike power kit aren't the best, hard to operate with gloves on as buttons are small.

26-- series bigger capacity but bulkier, downside is they dont have a battery, but are excellent otherwise and do what they are meant to and for around £120 s/h you can't go wrong.

Both units use map source which takes a few hours to get your head round , but easy once you know how.

Go for It

For a sports bike - the Quest is probably essential, but if you are fitting to a GS or other big trailie-type thing..........

go for the 2610.

The 2610 display doesn't update as smoothly as a Zumo (or 2720/2820) display, but it is still a good bit of kit.

Just be careful how much you pay for a 2610 - by the time you pay for add-on mounts (if not from the seller of the 2610 in the sale) - you can end up asking yourself if you wouldn't have been better getting a Zumo 400 with EU mapping? :nenau

eBay deals are out there if you bide your time. Got a 2720 for £155 over a year ago. Factor in the cost of cradle and RAM hardware if you don't already have it.

Cheers guys, I'll keep a look out for a 2610 seeing as it uses CF memory more practical for long tours.
