Searched for weeks :nenau to find a cheap Quest and finally gave up and ordered one from Maplins.

Going to order a Ram Mount kit for it (GA15 & B-149) but having read loads of previous threads I am getting confused over the best way of powering the unit on the bike  .

Can I use the standard Garmin power cable and just cut off the Garmin Cigarette lighter adapter and fit a BM socket instead? I would then be able to power it straight from the GSA's Auxillery power socket.

I do not want/need an audio output just the power.

Thanks

I believe the voltage reducer (Quest runs on 5v not 12v) is located in the speaker/cigarett lighter bit.

Proceed with care!!

Why don`t you get a car cigarette type socket adaptor ??
You can even get twin outlet ones.
They can be bought ready made,on a coiled type extending lead.

I`ve got them on all my bikes...for my radar detector and for general accessory use.

That was my other option (I already have a car cigarette socket adaptor) but was trying to tidy up the wiring and avoid using the original Garmin speaker unit, as I assume that it is not going to be very waterproof.

Thanks

I use a Garmin Powered Mount which I hard wire to the battery. You can hard wire to the accessory socket or to the side light on the main beam headlight if you prefer.

Alternatively you could try a QPAC from GPSW. Do a search and you'll have plenty of options.

No its not water/weatherproof, nor is it designed/intended for bike/outdoor but warm inside comfort of a cage. Moreover the Vreg chipset used is for the car, the G bike holder and QPAC uses a higher temp rated Vreg chipset, etc, etc. Please read all related threads in forum on this subject. Get it right and do it right !.

Thanks for the advise - and time to spend some money at GPSW I think to do it right!

I assume that if I acquire QPAC 02-25 (power & audio cable), Ram-B-149Z and Hol -GA15 that I will have everything I need to do a proper job. Do you know if there is any kind of package deal/discount for site sponcers from GPSW if you order everthing at the same time.

Thanks

Paul, I had this flagged to me around early Nov .. in the For sale/wanted and I posted a response for card carrying, paid up site sponsor members only.
The link was http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55688
This may have dropped out unless Paul (BHT) can re-open. If he does then I will repeat until end of jan '06 only.

Link no longer seams to work.

If Paul(BHT) can re open it - that would be great. If not I will try and stop being a tight git and order the stuff in any case.

Many Thanks

Are you going to watch it all the time for direction changes rather than let the voice speak to you??

I have the RAM mount and the Garmin Motorcycle Cradle that comes with the power lead and audio socket. Works a treat.

When all cobbled to the bike it looks good and Doris tells me all I need to know through a single earpiece I bought off ebay for £11.

Finally got round to getting the bike fitting kit from Steve (Ram-man) today as I was in West London on business. Fitted it all in about 20 minutes and works a treat without me needing to worry about dodgy electrics and frying my new Quest the next time it rains

Big thanks to Steve for his time and advise :beerjug:

Couple of pics attached if any one is interetsed.

All the parts: QPAC 02-35 (power & audio cable), Ram-B-149Z and Hol -GA15 cost £71.90 plus postage but I was in London and so picked them up direct and saved on the postage. All prices can be found by going into the RAM link and then into the GPSW site.

Not cheap but good quality kit.
