Hoping some can give me an idea of the best way forward

Aquired a Connected Nav and would like to utilise the live traffic updates etc. I have tethered it to my phone...at least I think I have
Map & Device updates would be done at home on wifi

Don't need a sim for calls or texts, but I have always had a contract sim since forever and PAYG is an unknown to me

PAYG online, Three, Lyca, Lebara, Smarty etc all seem to look like great deals but with a monthly cost
I don't really want a monthly cost

I can only see Three offering 1 month, 3 month or 12 months

Is there a way of just buying a data only sim and topping it up as and when needed?
Seem to remember the PAYG used to work like that

I can see all the sim's on offer at retail store checkouts, but online they seem to offer an amount of data per month

Any recommendations?

Thanks

Lebara offer a rolling 30 day SIM and many here use them for data connections as you also get free roaming in EU plus a few other places.

sign up via https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cheap-mobile-finder/sim-only/ and 5GB for a moth will cost you £1.65 a month, then a fiver a month from the 7th month. Select all deals at the top and filter for 30 days. Up to 50GB a month available on Lebara.

Some just take the deal for the months on tour and cancel. Then take out another one for the following trip.

I use a Lebara SIM as my main one. Worked fine for many years all across Europe.

Cheers Wessie

Got the Lebara one you mentioned above
Will cover the 2 Euro trips before the price goes up

Many thanks

I had a Smarty standard rolling 30 day sim in my CRN last year, and for the low cost, it was a definite benefit over tethering to my phone, as it seemed to sync more reliably and didn’t hammer my phone battery. However, I could not get it to work in Europe, despite having Euro calls and data included.
I suspect it was to do with the need to change apn data roaming settings, which the CRN does not seem to support.
